Texas got some good news when 6-foot-3 J'Covan Brown decided to be a Longhorn.

No.48 ranked senior J'Covan Brown from Beaumont TX made his college decision and he is headed to Texas.

He is (however) waiting to sign his national letter at this point until the spring.

He chose Texas over Oklahoma State and Baylor.

It isn't a surprise, but I have yet to read anywhere that he actually signed his LOI.

gee whiz, what a surprise, not! This was posted 2 or 3 days ago along with a few songs about his decision.

The eyes of Texas are upon you,
All the live-long day.
The eyes of Texas are upon you,
You cannot get away.
Do not think you can escape them,
At night or early in the morn.
The eyes of Texas are upon you,
Till Gabriel blows his horn.

J'Covan Brown picks Longhorns

J'Covan Brown, a 6-foot-2 combo guard from Port Arthur, Tex., verballly committed to the University of Texas on Thursday, multiple sources report. The 44th ranked prospect in the ESPN Top 150 chose coach Rick Barnes and the 'Horns over Oklahoma State and Cincinnati. It remains unclear when Brown will sign his official letter of intent.

I just found an article dated Nov 15th with numerous quotes by Brown saying he will attend Texas. So I changed his Interest # from 4 to 1, like I would for any other recruit, and added the article to his Recruiting page on the site.

I still find it odd that a player would commit during a signing period, but not sign. Its possioble that his recruitment is not over.

If I'm the Texas coaching staff I would be thrilled that they have a commitment from Brown, but ticked that he doesnt want to sign now. It means they have to continue to recruit him for the next many months. They'd rather spend their time on recruiting Browns future teammates, I'm sure.

could it be a grades issue? or waiting for scores to come back?

It's unusual but happens, now and then.

They commit but do not sign to protect themselves in case there is a coaching change, he is commited to Rick Barnes not Texas, if Rick would take a job at another school at the end of this season he would go where Rick goes. With the way coaches job hop it is a wonder why anyone would sign an LOI with a school until the spring coaching change dust has settled.
