I know this isn't a Dayton board, but I think this is relevant:
@JuwanStaten3: Its been great being a Dayton Flyer, but things just weren't meant to be. No regrets, and no bad feelings. Time to move forward.
@JuwanStaten3: I just wish it could have worked out here...I don't wana leave Dayton, I love my city!
Juwan State
6'0 PG (2010)
Dayton, OH (Marshall High/Oak Hill Academy)
Rivals (#49) and Scout (#70): 4-stars
Freshman year at UD: 8.5 points, 5.4 assists, 2.1 rebounds, 0.8 steals (only 38.8% from the field, 60.4% from FT)
Season highlights: 17 points against Xavier, 16 points against GMU, 7 points and 10 assists versus Fordham (had 9 points against UC)
Committed to UD as a sophomore over UC, Purdue, Xavier
From Rivals.com (July 2009):
Juwan Staten (2010 All Ohio Red)- Sullinger might be the anchor for All Ohio Red, but Staten is certainly the engine that makes that team run. He has a lethal burst off the dribble, shoots the ball well and is a sound decision maker.
We have zero 2012 commits. He would be eligible then (when Cash and JaQuon are seniors) but could be a great practice player. Sounds like he wants to stay near home maybe?

Huge blow for Dayton.
If he transferred now, he would be available for the 2012 season. Staten would be a frosh, and Cash would be a Senior. Also, Guyn and Jeremiah Davis would be Sophomores, and Staten would be in the same class.
He is definitely talented, but no clue about his options.

He would have 3 more years of eligibility remaining. Coming out of High school, I remember UC was in his top 5.
Anyone think we have any shot at him? Would Mick even pursue the guy?
Thoughts?

Staten will be a sophomore in terms of eligibility after he sits out his transfer year, placing him in the same class as Guyn, Davis, et al.

Yes, that's why I said "Staten would be in the same class."
Honestly, Juwan is not what we want in a PG.
He has a below average jump shot (4/26 from 3PT), shot 60% from the FT line and is more of a score first, score second, pass third type player. He is quick as ****, and would be deadly with all the high screen action we use, but he wants to be a scorer and he cannot shoot the ball.
Personally, Guyn and Davis may have more upside at the PG position because they're bigger, stronger and better shooters.
Not Guilty

It just doesn't make sense to take him. We would have to use a scholarship on him next year when he is sitting out, and we need that scholarship to use on a big man. Then he would join a class that already has 5 people in it. We need to try to balance out the classes, not add to the incoming freshman class.

True, but earlier in the post you wrote he would be a freshman when Guyn et al. would be sophomores. I was just clarifying.

Well that makes these two Spearman and Staten, and also Ware and Jones from Tenn. available. He!! I don't know if we take any of them I just want a scorer. Someone that is going to attack and when done attack again. I love Dixon and the rest of what we got but just for example you can't just shoot the ball twice like Dion did against UCONN. You got to want to score and be fearless. I'm not asking for Kemba but something close I'd like.

See Shaq Thomas and Jermaine Sanders...they're big time scorers with size. Also, don't forget we get back a major amount of points back and these are players with a lot of upside. Even Jeremiah Davis will be a good scorer in the future.

Not sure I want a guy who, according to this article, seemed to erode team chemistry and felt entitled to a better role. Looks like alot of daddy issues too.

Yeah I hope so, for everything I've read and seen Davis, Sanders, And Thomas like to put the round thing in the hoop. I just want agressiveness on this team. Like I mentioned we all know Dixon can score but you can't score if you don't try.

I apologize for speculating, but another big A-10 name is transferring. Former 4-star (top 50) center Aaric Murray. From Pennsylvania. Don't think UC was ever in the running before, but you never know now.
I think, considering the hesitation with Staten above, we wouldn't have doubts about a 6'10 player (unless he has attitude issues). Averaged 15.2, 7.7, 2.3 blocks this year

Aaric Murray has filed to transfer from LaSalle.

Right. I meant I did not want to speculate too much about him and UC.

Is he a vet or something? That's a huge step down.

No, he's a PSU alum! Reportedly didn't feel that he was getting enough respect/commitment from the administration.
Also, pretty sure Staten isn't getting interest from UC or vice versa.

While DeChellis is a Penn State grad, he's been getting beat up for not being a consistent winner, which in Happy Valley is just not acceptable. He won the NIT and then the team went bust the next year. Then this year he at least got them to the NCAAs for the first time in 10 years, but lost in the first round.
He has a losing record both at East Tennesee and at Penn State.
His road isn't going to be easy in the Patriot League, where recruiting is even more difficult than getting players to State College [not urban enough...].
He said he felt a 'calling' when he and his family visited two months ago. And while I don't believe he's a vet, he is an ethical and nice guy from all accounts. He's battled cancer and won, has pushed the 'Coaches vs. Cancer' campaign, and is known for his quiet giving.
It's hard to believe he didn't feel enormous pressure from the fans, but we gotta take him at his word. Let's hope it all works out for him.

Don't comment if you don't want it to go on, though admittedly he really hasn't been on UC's radar. But go on any other team message board and you will see a lot of semi-OT info.
Besides, very few people contribute anything to recruiting, especially in the offseason. The kid is going to the Big East, so it's at least relevant. Plus, three or four months from now, someone will surely post a "Whatever happened to Juwan Staten" thread b/c they are too lazy to Google it or search through the forums.
