View Full Version : Darnell Wilks in college slam dunk contest
Darnell Wilks will be representing Cincinnati in the college slam dunk contest this Thursday night on ESPN (I believe 9pm EST) - should be fun to watch.
Other big east participants:
Pittsburgh's Gilbert Brown and St. John's Justin Burrell

Wilks has had some impressive dunks this year (as well as throughout his career), but someone else who has impressed me with their dunks too is Dion Dixon (although I don't think he would do particularly well in the competition)
Best of luck Darnell!

Hopefully he doesn't foul anyone or throw it out of bounds. Just kidding he helped us immensely to bring us back to where we are, good luck to him in his future.

I think Darnell is smart enough to actually put something down if he gets to the finals and misses his first attempt unlike some James White people we know.

Wilks was impressive in the Deveroes dunk contest when I watched him 2 summers ago but I felt like he was still holding back a little bit. Hope he pulls every trick out of the bag Thursday night.

Flight White's performance still wasn't as bad as #13 Leonard Stokes' was.

It's no secret, based on this year's game threads, that you were not a fan of Darnell being on the team let alone playing significant minutes.

He definatley huslted his butt off but and is out of control and out of position most of the time, but i thought I made it clear that i respected what he's done. Also what he was ranked as a recruit he underachieved even though stars by their names don't mean much of anything. I was never a fan of his shot selection and him and Thomas putting the other team in the bonus as fast as they could. And I'm not alone. I'll also give credit where credit is due he was one of the only players to try to block shots he might of fouled , but he tried. When was the last time Thomas or Gates left their feet to block a shot. ( NOT MANY). Besides take a joke, It's a dunk contest for crying out loud.

I personally don't have any issue with your position on Wilks. But, in fairness to others, you were fairly harsh on him on a consistent basis. You'll understand if those folks question your motives when posting on him even if it was said in jest.

youtube white's cba and overseas dunk contests. no doubt he wins nba if he could actually stay in the league. Dude does 4 different dunks from the free throw line and is the first to take off from behind the line and make it. Best one footed dunker i've seen.

I knew I wasn't the only one. I just call it as I see it. He's athletic great, but it isn't a high jump contest you need to put the round thing in the hoop.

Where did I disagree with him? He asked why people questioned a post about DW that he made and I gave him an answer.

Again, I don't disagree with you. However, as I said, people are going to take any post you make about DW with a grain of salt given your prior posts about him.
Nothing more than that.

I wish Darnell had redshirted as a freshman. He would have probably seen big minutes next year stepping into Bishop's role.

Nah I'm with you it wasn't you that said anything. Mackbee or whoever acted like I attacked Wilks. If you look at some of my posts when he made plays I acknowledged it or when he provided a spark. My whole take on him is most of the time he played out of control. No offense taken here.

You got me... I didnt want to respond to you cause its silly. What I meant is just that the the guy isnt even playing anymore and you are still taking shots at him... in jest or whatever. Every player is not going to live up to their potential and guess what people foul in a game.. sometimes its ill timed. Relax.

What would have been best for Darnell was a year of prep school and even then a possible redshirt. It would be nice if he were just entering his junior year and had that experience and time to develop under his belt.

I for one am very excited to see Darnell in the contest...I don't know how many times this season I almost jumped out of my shoes when Darnell was on a breakaway only to have it called back before he got to the rim. While he did have several impressive dunks, I don't think we got a chance to see Darnell's full dunking abilities on the court this year.
Anyone know what time the contest is?

Nobody cares about your opinion about Wilks. This was about a slam dunk contest and you turned it into a "let me get attention by bashing Wilks" thread, which is weak.

Williams dunk was crap, he shouldn't have gotten a perfect score. It should be a 3 person final with Brown, Wilks, and Tucker.

I think there was a European guy a couple years ago that won it. He could be the first white american to in it.

No, he went to 4 years of high school. It was believed he was going to take a prep school 5th year, but it turned out he didn't need to. Jason Henry didn't qualify and Wilks came to UC a year earlier than some expected and was first reported, but not a year early from a high school standpoint.
Wish he would have taken a prep year or redshirted, but he was a good player for UC.
