Vaughn,Davis and Wright in the back coart>
Bishop, Mitchell, Wilks on the wings>
Williams, Belton and Gates on the blocks>
McClain at center>
thats a 10 player 2008 team>
i would say this 2008 team needs,
another center, and wing player
Are there any local players still out there?

Local (Cincy) players? Not BEast caliber.
Those 10 plus 1 or 2 more.

most of the 2008 impact players are gone. If there is a 2008 player that signs don't expect them to make an impact until 2009 or 2010. Unless someone decommits and comes to Cincinnati.

Well over 90% of HS players have signed this month. Probably more 5th year Preps available but academics are sometimes iffy. Most JuCo players haven't signed (yet).

I don't look for Mick to sign any juco players. It would help balance the clasees but as far I I see there really isn't anyone out there that could help immediately. I look for U.C. to sign one more in the spring and use the remaining scholly for '09. Remember they have to hold one in case it's needed for M. Williams.

There are gobs of JuCo players (unsigned) who can help Div I programs.
It's highly unlikely that Williams would get a 6th year of eligibility. Maybe but more likely, not.

This team needs a backup center> Mick can afford too hold back 2 for 09>
Mick has got 3 wing players that can play shooting guard, There is not a real need there. THE need is at center> Who is going too back up center. Mick does have that Belton kid, All 6 of those freshman are players. o8 is looking real good, THINK CENTER

Unfortunately, I've been told by many that the 2008 center selection reminds us of that old country singer - Slim Pickens.
2008 - HS and Juco - is weak for the center position.

Any foreign options that anyone knows about?
If Mick does decide to carry over a couple scholarships, how does 2009 look for recruiting?

Why is it more likely not? That is a shame but want to know your thoughts on why it is not looking good... I do not know anything about this kind of situation...
Thanks

Very seldom do players get two red-shirt years unless they are both due to injuries.

I think we will be just fine next season with just a 10 player crew>

I agree that a GOOD backup center is the #1 priority for next year's class. Is there any potential recruit still out there to fill this void???

Correct. Evan Eschmeyer of Northwestern got a 6th year but he was injured 2 full seasons.

I think they have a bias against transfer students, which is a shame. Strictly academic students transfer all the time. The NCAA badly needs some more progressive leadership.

Give me some low post (centers) names of some juco players that can step up and play BEast basketball. I don't follow the juco circuit very closely and would welcome the info. Also, this team doesn't need just wing players. It needs wing players that can shoot. Athleticism is great but we need some players who will consistently stroke it from outside. To this point (including last season) we do not have that. Vaughn is capable but is not very consistent with his outside shot.

I'll link the JuCo Junction Top 200 list when I get back home from my road trip.
From some of the recent BEast losses to teams from other conferences, I'd say Playing BEast Basketball may not be as meaningful as in the past.

A lot of upsets all over the place - BBall and football.
Looks like all major conferences aren't as dominant as in the past.

ESPN disagrees with you Bearcat Fan we still have the best T.V. Deal. Plus two top 10 soon to be top 5 teams. We are still in the premier basketball conference even if we dont dominate this year it wont take long.

Hardly. The ACC is the premier basketball conference. Has been for a long time.

I didn't see any great shooters today. Indoors or outside, either one.
Well, maybe Larry Davis.

Just stole this quite out of a new ScoutHoops article. It backs what what I previously understood -
"Now that the dust has settled from the first signing period, we’ve got a pretty solid picture of how shallow the remaining talent pool is [at center]. Unless the junior college ranks yield a litany of winter surprises, big time college programs may need to think about mining the overseas talent for players 6-foot-8 or taller."
I dont have any info on overseas guys,. Its hard enough to follow the ones already in the country.
I looked at the 2008 Juco list and noticed Jason Bennett is on there, I thought he went to Kansas St??? He must not be that good??

Bennett left K-St when their coach moved on after last year.
He's not that hard of worker although he has good potential.

Based on what? He would be on the floor if he was doing anything to deserve it. Why do folks think he should just be put of the floor just because he is Alvin Mitchell? let him earn his playing time please. He and the team will be better for it.

Sir, if he can't play in practice, he won't be able to play in a game. If he can't guard in practice, he won't be able to guard in a game. If he can't run the plays in practice, he won't.....you know where I'm going. Once he grasp the offensive and defensive concepts in practice he will start getting minutes. YOU DON"T HURT THE TEAM TO LET SOMEONE PLAY THAT DON'T KNOW OR CAN"T RUN YOUR SETS! why is that hard to understand? If he was good defensively or offensively you give him time because you can live with the trade off. He is lost on both ends of the court therefore he does not play. Pretty simple equation.

He'll never learn if he doesn't play in games.

He won't be able to learn in any situation until he gets his shot back. I'm sure that's all he's thinking about.
He played 23 minutes against Coastal and only shot 12.5%. He did have 7 rebounds though.
Tom's right here. The only way to get his shot back is in games. Once he has that taken care of he can learn.

The problem is there hasn't been blowouts to get guys like him playing time. I agree with the previous poster, if he earns it in practice, play him, if not, don't.
Mitchell has had a few chances to play and he hasn't looked good so far.
