There is nothing official as of yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if he visits in April or early May. His decision is likely to occur in the signing period which runs till mid May.

Mike, any update on Jason Henry or Alvin Mitchell. Are they still expected to sign their LOI and is it likely that they will be acedemically eligible (esp henry). Hopefully Mclain won't commit to UConn during his unofficial visit there next weekend. If Mick can truly get him on campus I think we have a great chance to land him.

This my first post after years of checking bearcatnews daily and I really appreciate all the info thats available to diehard UC fans like myself. Thanks for all your great work.

No direct updates, but have heard whispers that Mitchell is in better shape academically than Henry. I know Henry was waiting on a good ACT score and do not know where that stands today.

I expect both to sign, simply because I haven't heard the opposite.

I can garentee that McClain will not sign without visiting UC. My main concern is Henry and his ability to play this upcoming season. I will be very disappointed if he can not play. I dont want anything negative to happen with this recruiting class. I am really holding my breath for Henry, Mitchell I am not afraid about at all, i believe he will come in and be very effective ball player. The latest rumor with Thabeet is that he is going to the Association, I don't know that will make or break the decision if McClain is coming, obviously it wouldnt hurt if Thabeet stayed.

I thought I read somewhere that McClain was leaning toward staying? It was one of the recruiting sites

He is talking Thabeet. I read now that Thabeet is leaning towards going pro, which would really hurt UC.

is there any concern about Florida now that the 4 juniors are heading to the pros ?

So far, everything I have read are just rumors. I have seen some sites that list him as a top 10 pick, which to me seems crazy. Based on potential, I could see him go in the first round, but I haven't seen anything on the offensive end that would deem him a top 10 pick. He is pretty good on defense, but I don't think that should warrant a top 10 pick.

Even if Thabeet goes, it's not like UConn was blowing peoples doors off last season. Weren't they the last team into the Big East tourney? That's not that much better than UC.

And speaking of Thabeet going pro, he'd be about one notch above Bryant Reeves and one below Yinka Dare. Total stiff....

When they are as tall and as good as McClain, you worry about everyone.

Here's a link to a Connecticut Post article on the rumor that Thabeet had decided to enter the NBA draft:

In a nutshell, he hasn't decided yet.

Mitchell is all set and will be ready to roll next year. Henry is the player whose eligibility in doubt and several sources have told me they'd consider it a minor miracle and borderline impossible for him to qualify next year. Also, his test score isn't the issue, it's his GPA from all the times he transferred and a low GPA he was carrying, which can't be turned around in six months. Will keep digging and see what's going on.

I also think Van Coleman is losing it, he is getting all kinds of names wrong and called Dennis Harris a 7 footer which couldn't further from the truth.

What's the status on Larry Davis' knee and academics for next year and Rashad Bishop's academics for next year? Is Henry the only one who may not be cleared to play for any reason?

From everything I've been told Larry Davis' knee is healing well and he didn't play ball this year to be ready physically and academically for UC. Rashad Bishop is on track to qualify for freshman eligibility. Henry is the only one who might have trouble at this point.

So, if Henry is declared ineligible, does he go back to Harmony next year or sit out at UC next year? Will he stay committed to the 'Cats or open up his recruitment again after next year?

I would think Mick thinks he's close to landing McClain since he hasn't offered any other big man a scholarship. Is this Harris kid anything or is he a bigger body that we don't have?

Hard to know what Henry would do if he didn't make the grade but doing an extra year (or part of one) at Harmony and joining the team 2nd semester or in 2008 would certainly be discussed.

We are in good shape with McClain and hopefully he takes his visit soon. Harris a 6-9 player who can play inside and out though he needs to put on weight if he's going to play down low. He could still grow an inch or two and if the staff wasn't high on him they would not have had him in for a visit. He plays on a hig profile AAU team and the better he plays the more interest he will draw from big clubs. We have been on him a while which isn't lost on him.

Tomorrow is the first day that we could find out. Hopefully we will see McClain in with Henry and Mitchell.

I feel strongly that McClain will be a Bearcat sooner than later. Really need Henry to finish this quarter in the classroom strongly to pull up his transfer grades.

I wouldn't expect McClain to sign tomorrow with Henry & Mitchell. However, I do expect him to be a Bearcat.

According to the enquirer article, McClain is visiting this weekend.

Also, according to Rodney Crawford, he thinks Henry will qualify to be a Bearcat next season. We'll see....
