Cincinnati is on the board in 2012.
Thursday afternoon, power forward Devon Scott announced his commitment to the Bearcats via Twitter.
“As of now, I am verbally committed to the University of Cincinnati,” Scott wrote.
Scott is a 6-foot-8 prospect from Northland (Ohio), the same school that produced current Ohio State star Jared Sullinger. He has a strong body and works hard on the glass. Scott will be a nice replacement for current Cincinnati big man Yancy Gates in the fall of 2012.
He chose the Bearcats over mid-major offers from schools like Kent State, Akron, Cleveland State and interest from the likes of Dayton, West Virginia, Ohio State, UCLA and others.

Had that same thought, but as of 5 minutes before he was not committed. So I think he was trying to saying: I have just now committed.

I get the sense that if OSU offered, he would go there.

It says he's known for defense and rebounding. Why should that be a surprise?

Without seeing any video (I think some on YouTube) or reading any real scouting reports, I think this could be a good "system" get. Seems like a Mick-type player: tall and long, probably can move and press. Also teammates with Elijah Macon (or he was before Huntington Prep).

Dont take this the wrong way cuz I like me some 6'8" athletic guys. He!! I'll take a whole squad of them, but it seems to me that we are signing alot of offensively challenged players. I just hope they turn out like Hicks, Maxiell, Martin or Dermarr. I just want some players that fill it up.

To play the other side of things a bit...
I don't know much about him other than what I've posted on this board. But let's say Devon is an above average rebounder and defender...
I think of the movie Coach Carter, where Coach Carter worked on conditioning and defense for the first few weeks of practice without doing much with offense (yeah, I know, it was a movie). But in the first game, they won because of speed and defense, which turned into points.
We all know UC can't suit up 13 guys who averaged 25 points in high school and all need the rock in their hands. But what if UC has a few great scorers (including Sean Kilpatrick), but is one of the most athletic and best defensive teams in the country? I'd take that any day. Hypothetically, #1 Big East defense plus some great scorers....

I wouldn't worry about the "As of now" wording. To me that looks like a time reference stating when he made his decision, hopefully with intent that the Twitter followers are getting info on the decision in real time.
As of now, I welcome Devon into the Bearcat Family!

Now It's definately takin the wrong way. Long story short I'm sick of struggling to get to 60 pts. whether we have a great defense or not. But I think this class is going to be strong.

Sweet - Zags says he was also considering X.
In re: "As of now", he also tweeted: “I’m happy with my choice and nothing outside my family could change it…”

Doesn't really sound much like a Big East recruit to me. When half the conference seems to get top 25 recruiting classes, this wasn't exciting news.

He's not the next Yancy Gates (5-star, instant impact type of player), but you need guys to play certain roles. We need a shotblocker, rebounder, defender for when Gates is gone. He'll fill needs and probably could be good when it's all said and done.
In football recruiting, you see guys with MAC and UC, Indiana, etc. offers. Then they get the OSU offer and they're off to Columbus.
Scott was being recruited hard by UCLA, getting good looks from WVU, and OSU was showing interest. Dion Dixon, for example, had a couple good offers but was getting strong interest from the likes of Wyoming and Texas A&M Corpus-Christi, I think.
DScott might not be four-star caliber yet, but who knows where he'll be after AAU season. A couple of his teammates are also being recruited by UC, btw.

And not only was UCLA recruiting him, they wanted him to give a verbal commitment about a year ago, and when he wasn't ready, they moved on. This kid intrigues me as I think he could turn out to be a pretty solid big man.

Rumors on Twitter he decommitted from UC. Not sure who the guy is that wrote this (doesn't have bio/unaware of an affiliation with a site or publication) / can't see the topic on BCL so I guess we'll see if this is the case.
Don't shoot the messenger....

Grades. I don't think he's very happy with UC right now.
I can't imagine how HS is difficult for people. Then I volunteered at an inner city public school. Holy **** is anyone teaching these kids at home?
