Peters Township's dramatic come-from-behind victory Saturday over Woodland Hills in the first round of the WPIAL Class AAAA playoffs was overshadowed by a bloody altercation that stopped the game for about 10 minutes.

Woodland Hills senior Shakim Alonzo was ejected with 3:38 remaining in the fourth quarter for throwing an elbow, then ran the length of the court and punched Peters Township center Gabe Pritz in the side of the head, leveling him.

...

Building security escorted Alonzo to the locker room with his mother, who had come out of the stands and onto the court to help restrain her son. Alonzo was not available for comment.

"There was a lot of contact going on," said Woodland Hills athletic director George Novak, who coached Alonzo in football. "Something frustrated him, and it was something that was going on the whole game. Shakim has never been in a fight and has never had any aggressive actions ever, and he was frustrated because of a lot of the back-and-forth during the game."

...

Novak indicated that Alonzo -- a University of Cincinnati football recruit -- and his family will be required to meet with school officials about possible in-house discipline.

The parents of the kid he sucker punched are pressing charges. This guy's never gonna get here from the look of it.

Alonzo claimed he got called the N-Word but no one else will corroborate that.

Matt Opper at Down the drive has a nice write up on it

Didn't take long to lose the top running back (Norfleet) and one of the top receivers (Alonzo) from this recruiting class. As they say, you never know how good a class is until you get a few years down the road.

I wouldn't say he is out of here.

I view something like this much different than most, if not all, other crimes (robbery, theft, etc.).

Kid lost his temper. No serious injury to the kid that was punched? Also, no history of violence or problems tells me that he might have been provoked.

Fact of the matter is some people just need a good punching.
