OU's AD make some comments yesterday that kind of confirmed what we all were thinking.
When Mizz leaves, BYU or WVU will replace them. If they choose to expand to 12, UL is the third choice, UC is the fourth choice.

His comments were that they would move quickly to add teams if Missou left. He did not make any statements as to which teams would be added or what team would be the first choice, etc. This is the same drivel that Andy Katz seems to be spewing. All of a sudden though UC is mentioned as a possibility. Our new AD has stated that there is no question that we will continue to be a player on the national stage and not to believe all the rumors or whats on the internet. I place more stock on what he has to say than that moron Katz.
Someone please tell me why BYU is more sought after than UC--geographics, money, TV market, football only, ---?????--Why?

Sorry...his technical comments were that they would act quickly and that they had two teams in mind, one being BYU.
The comments about WVU, UL, and UC being in the mix (in that order) were other sources.

Because they are independant, and thus could join immediately.

Our new AD is reportedly a great fund raiser, he has already mentioned improving facilities, ......which all sounds great. Unfortunately, if UL and West Va leave the Big East for the Big 12 and we aren't along for the ride, I'm not sure all that great sounding stuff will matter.
The major thing that BYU provides that we don't is they are plug and play. We are available in 27 months.

I suspect BYU has a similar, though smaller, fan base to ND. Because of the religious affiliation, I suspect there are Mormon fans across the nation.

Maybe BYU really doesn't want to be a member of the Big 12. Maybe what they want is a long term scheduling alliance. For example, until the Big 12 can get to 12, they will play each Big 12 team for the next two seasons. After UC, UL, and West VA arrive in the conference, they will play four games a year against Big 12 teams until h@ll freezes over (2 home, 2 away, big 12 teams rotate). The Big 12 solves its short term scheduling issue, BYU gets to remain independent which it really wants, AND the alliance helps solve its long term scheduling issue by guaranteeing itself tier 1 compitition each year.
Win Win.

Based on no insider knowledge....but i wonder if the Big XII doesnt want to take on another prima donna school. A school that wont play on sunday, wants its own network, thinks its the ND of the west...etc. They already have one (UT). Maybe the big XII as a whole doesnt want another one.

BINGO! We have a winner. The earliest that WVU, UL or UC could join is 2014.

I still maintain that if Pitt/SU/WVU/UL and UC all want out, an arrangement will be made. Doesnt make sense for both parties not to.

WOW - I had the exact same thought - but just felt it was wishful thinking.

If they all want out at the same time and UConn and Rutgers move on to the B10 or ACC, I could see it happening. USF unfortunately will be left holding their hat if that happens.
