(Hoopmasters says...)

Scotty Hopson, a 6-foot-6, 195-pound wing from Hopkinsville (KY) University Heights, is one of the top unsigned players in the country. Hopson shined at this summer's LeBron James Skills Academy and is one of the top athletes in the Class of 2008.

Hopson committed to Mississippi State, but did not sign during the early signing period, which ended last Wednesday. That has not stopped schools such as Louisville, Cincinnati and Kentucky from showing up to watch him score 32 points on Friday night. Kentucky head coach Billy Gillispie was in attendance to catch Hopson, Hoopmasters #13 rated HS senior.

I think I had posted on another thread, wondering if there was some interest both ways between us and Hopson since he did not sign and is from KY. From what I know about him (which is limited to what I have seen on the internet) he is a very good athlete and outside shooter, which would seem to fit perfectly with what we need. Can anyone add anything else about him?

Not holding my breath but still holding out hope until the ink is dry on NLI's of a class for next year of Wright, Gates, Hopson/Brown, servicable JUCO/high school big man.

Good thing you aren't holding your breath, because you would be dead thinking we will sign four for next year. Mick will hold a scholarship for '09.

We have 3 left for this years class, if he signs 2 for next year, i.e. Hopson or Brown and a big man, there will still be one left for '09 outside of McElroy.

Not if Mike Williams gets another year.

I seriously doubt we have any chance of landing Hopson........considering the decimated state of our program. But the fact that we're even in the mix is a good sign.

It's very rare for a player who already burned a redshirt (transfer) to get a 6th year. Those who do (get 6) are injured for 2 years.

Agree - take Williams out of all your scenarios. Chances are very slim he'll be here after next year. Also keep in mind that he is totally unproven for UC right now.
