Joe Bailey, the interim commissioner of the Big East Conference, says it’s time for the league to be more aggressive in touting its football achievements.

“My general feeling about the Big East is that it’s never been incredibly proactive about tooting its own horn,” Bailey said Friday in an interview with The Enquirer. “Maybe we have to be a little more proactive in this. The proof is in the quality of play, the quality of the institutions, the quality of the coaching. That’s the way the Big East has always been. It doesn’t proclaim a banner headlining that it’s the best basketball conference in the United States. You let others make that judgment. My guess is that in the future the Big East will be more proactive at saying what we are. And we’re pretty good, pretty damn good.”

Too little, too late I'm afraid

While I agree that it's probably too little, too late, I do feel that an agressive PR push for BE football should / could / would really help with public perception. I wouldn't go so far as to smear the ACC, but I'd be pointing out the BEs accomplishments as much as possible.

Show something like X statistics of the old BE, and X statistics with the new BE. Call it the "Strong get Stronger" campaign or something like that.

Also, I have no idea how much time it normally takes to fill the commissioner spot, but the interim stands out like a big ole red flag, "what we need right now is leadership, but we can't decide on a leader because we don't know where we want to go..."
