700 is not a consistent home for the Bearcats and I think they should change over to 96.5 FM. During the fall UC is bumped off 700 more than they are on it and the same goes for the early season basketball. The games sound better on FM and the reach of 700 is not as important as it used to be due to all of the games being on television. I find it interesting that Kentucky never gets pulled off of Homer but UC games get bumped all of the time. Not exactly the way the home town team should be treated.

Those of us not living in Cincinnati appreciate the reach of 700 WLW for the Bearcats games. I would never hear a game on 96.5 FM.

Every game has been on WLW so far except one of those weak ones at the beginning..no way they switch.

That'd be stupid.

You are kidding, right? Talk about being parochial. Do you not know that WLW goes to some 35 states. I listen to the BK and Mick shows from here in Virginia, not to mention games that are not covered by local television other than in Cincy. And XM Radio carries every UC football and basketball game EVERYWHERE because of WLW's status as a national broadcasting channel. Leaving WLW for an FM channel? That would be beyond ignorant.

UH HOW BOUT BROADCASTER CHANGES????????

Chuck is like knives in my ears... and Dan needs to calm it down man.. he gets all excited and wets himself just when somebody SHOOTS A 2 POINT JUMPER... I mean if it goes in, yeah, get a little excited.. but stop gettin all riled up just when someone SHOOTS THE BALL!

Chuck and Dan.... torture

And then for the Reds you have Grande and Welsh!! Unbelievable

And the Bengals.. Johansen and Lapham???

Cincinnati Reds have had one of the best broadcaster booths for the last 40 years.

Good call. I listen to games in upstate New York, and I've caught them down in South Georgia - so I'm definitely hoping they don't leave WLW.

I second Bruce's comment. Being able to pickup 700 via XM channel 173 is much appreciated by this out of towner.

I think Dan Hoard does a good job, but I think Thom Brennaman was the best UC play by play announcer ever. I still get chills when I hear him say "Van Exel will cut it loose!" (from a Crosstown Shootout, no less)

The only way I would even be interested in them moving to 96.5 is if 96.5 has a live streaming web feed. This is how listen to games down in Texas.

Agreed. Absolutely loved it when it was Thom and Derrek Dickey. RIP Derrek

You just got done blasting the seniors on the basketball team and now your moving on to the broadcasters (the thread wasn't even about them). You must be an absolute peach to be around. Please share something positive with us just for kicks!

There were many times when I lived in South Carolina I would sit in my car listening to 700 WLW, now that 700 is on XM radio UC games are now heard across the country. No other college team can claim that! I think that with them being on 700 it can be used as a recruiting tool for the parents, you can listen to your boy play 90+% of the games. Just my thoughts.

I love Dan and Chuck is loveable. Chuck may not have talent but neither did Joe Nux. He is a homer just like Nux and I love him!

Who do you like then? Chuck and Dan are the best in business.

And Chuck was Oscar's roommate at UC in 1956-57. He was All-Stater from Elyria OH but a bit over his head as UC player. Became a player/coach (sort of) for UC in 1958 and 59.

Speaking of 96.5, what happened to Furman today. If you turn to that station, it's a bunch of construction sounds (under construction). If you go to the website, it's a countdown to tomorrow at noon and everytime you refresh, it comes up with a made up radio station (I got RDNX96.5, WWJD96). Anybody know what's up? I like flipping between Lance, ESPN and Furman on my way home from work but was stuck with Lance and the George Mitchell report on ESPN.

Apparently you don't remember when WLW carried X and UK. UC games were on station you couldn't pick up outside of I-275.

BTW Dan Hoard is awesome - I love his excitement. Chuck knows his stuff and that is all that matters. I could care less if he mauls his words. Hoard can more than compensate when it comes to eloquence - he is a brilliant guy.

Keep them on WLW! You can argue about announcers the same as political candidates, but I love being able to pick up the cats, reds, and bengals here in Charlotte. The Radio teams in Cincy have always been better than the TV teams. Not sure why. If I could just pick up WLW during the day, I would be estatic!

One thing I wish could change is that the UC broadcast starts 30 minutes before the game with the structured pre-game shows. The Kentucky and Louisville games on 1530Homer begin a couple hours before game time with a dedicated pre-game talk show with callers and such. I wish UC could demand that sort of attention and create more of an entire game experience and excitement level (both for football and basketball), not just the game.

In Columbus, there are two pregame choices for Ohio State football. 610 AM and 1460 AM both start the pregame broadcasts 4 hours prior to kick off. And both have at least two hours of postgame coverage.

If UC can continue to build on this season's success, I would not be surprised to see an expansion of coverage (pre and post game). It may not be on WLW. It may be on 1530 Homer but that's OK.

96.5 is moving away from sports. The Angry Guys will still be there, but other than that they will probably be a rock or country station beginning at noon today. Furman was canned.

I like Dan, Chuck, and Jim Kelly. All do a good job, IMO.

Announced today, Gregg Doyel is gone from Homer. That is a shame, he is a bit of a nerd, but he brought a national perspective to local radio while still being familiar with the local teams. I think it's a loss for local sports talk radio. He knew his hoops.

I think it is amazing people are ripping on Chuck. Chuck is a true Bearcat, he's a close friend of Huggins and even got himself thrown out of a game after Huggs did. He has remained loyal to the cats and has given Mick incredible support. Listening to him you can always tell his love for UC. He provides great insight to the game of basketball.

By the way his interviews with Huggs were ALWAYS the best. No other person in the media had better interviews with Bobby. "I don't know chuck, I just don't know" classic. Huggins always through out some great sarcasm with Chuck too, and Chuck knew Huggins well enough to react perfectly. I am and will continue to be a huge Chuck Machok fan

Doyle did bring national perspective. i guess I'll have to listen to ESPN radio to get that. He makes people think and gives them someone to (mostly) disagree with in the morning. I like Mo and the Cutman and Lance but they don't bring that national perspective that Doyle did. I guess we go back to concentrating only on what goes on inside teh 275 loop again. That is the limitation of having only local guys on the radio. I will probably be listening to ESPN more now. It's also a shame about Furman because he was a lot better on FM than 700. He was too comfortable on 700 and I think it shook him up some when he got canned. If you caught him on 96.5, he did a much better job - kind of like when I was a kid and my dad listened to him. It's amazing how things have changed in the past year in Cincinnati sports radio - Furman, Angry Guys, Big Dog, Furman back, Angry Guys back, Cutman taking over for Big Dog. Honestly, the one guy I haven't listened to regularly is Doc. ESPN is going to get a lot more play in my car now.

Doc is awful on so many levels. I hate listening to him. Every time I hear him I find something I completely disagree with and want to go after him. He was ripping on UC football talking about how we deserved to get screwed out of a better bowl. He loves stirring the Chad Johnson pot(to me the most ridiculous story in Cincinnati this year). The Bengals are not losing because of Chad Johnson (now Carson Palmer this year is a different story) yet Doc continually wants to bring it up and goes out of his way to rip on Chad. I think Doc just loves controversy...and he annoys the **** out of me.

Mo is my favorite local talk radio guy. He and Greg together was consistently great.

No Dan Hoard?

You guys are crazy....Dan's one of the most likeable radio personalities in this city....plus, he knows what he's talking about.

As far as Chuck goes, I'm more apathetic towards him....however, I do appreciate his frank honesty when it comes to how he feels about the Bearcats, opposing teams and the refs....

This post is unbelievable. I suppose each person has a right to his opinion, but I'm completely SHOCKED that people are ripping on Dan and Chuck. Dan Hoard does his homework like a real pro. Chuck is exactly what you need in the color guy...color! As was previously stated, he is such a homer he got thrown out of a game! I love it!

I love both of these guys. I think they are awesome. I was severely bummed when it looked like Dan was done with UC and can't wait to get back to the good ol' USA to hear him again.
