j. warren is playing solid at the pg spot. the last 2 games vs miami and lville have been great!! now his shot is starting to come around. how many would we have won earlier this season if he was playing!!!

As I have already posted, Warren is the MVP of this team right now. Not the best player, but its most valuable player.

Hard to argue with that.

I think losing Warren will be the hardest obstacle to overcome EARLY ON next season. Either Deonta will have to carry the PG load or will Mick insert Cashmere from the get-go? That is the question. To Cash or not to Cash?

CASH FROM THE START!!!

Agreed at the moment, but expect growing pains. With rare exception, it takes a point guard at least one year to fully learn how to run an offense at the college level. I'm not sure it's reasonable to expect a true freshman to arrive on campus and immediately be able to handle pressure defense, especially in a conference as good as the Big East.

Warren is playing well but I am concerned about Deonta at SG for the BE long haul. Dyson-UConn, Matthews-Marquette, Anders-Notre Dame, Cook-Pitt, Hazell-Seton Hall, Kennedy-St. Johns, Devendorf-Syracuse, Redding-Villanova and Ruoff-WVU. This is the list of SGs 6-4 or over averaging in double figures or close to it that Deonta will be facing. I like Warren at point but am highly skeptical about Deonta defending and scoring over these players night in and night out.

^^^Well he won't have to worry about Devendorf, hes out for the year with a leg injury.

Deonta may have to face taller guys, but he can present matchup problems of his own for THEM. Bigger guys hate to chase around smaller guards.

That said, I love Deonta's game.. I do have one area for improvement though, which is getting to the free throw line. With his ability to hit FTs, he should be trying to get to the line 6-8 times a game..

Our guards can drive, but they don't know how to draw contact very well.. Jamual and Marv usually try those floaters, which Deonta does sometimes too..

I'm sure Mick realizes this and will get it corrected....

REMEMBER.... after the UAB game on the post-game show, Mick was saying first and foremost how the defense and rebounding HAS to improve for us to be in games.. and lo and behold, 6 games later, we just outrebounded Xavier, Memphis, and NC State!! And the defense is a LOT better.

Again, that's COACHING.

He has always been the best all around player on the team. He is making believers out of the younger players on the team right now. i even loved his technical in the X game they need that kind of leadership on this team. As long as they keep deonta's shots down but at a higher percentage they will be fine. the key is to make vaughn believe in following thru in the offense which is what he did against louisville. let Jamual run it and he will get his. If he doesnt its over for the bearcats.

Vaughn is SG. I'd hope Wright gets PG nod. Davis can back up both spots.

If Deonta is SG again next year how will Mick find playing time for Mitchell, Davis and possibly Scotty Hopson or Mackey. As a junior coming in with a 14-15 ppg Vaughn would have to be the starter. I for one hope that Deonta hones his ball skills over the 2008 offseason and splits time at PG with Cashmere. GO CATS!!!

Regardless Vaughn is SG. All of those others could play "3" spot (wing) at UC.

Yep - just like Gentry, Vaughn, Warren this year (and last).

And while we are talking about last night's game, can we please give a special shout out to Mr. Warren. 34 minutes, 6 boards, 7 assists, and only 2 to's from our team leader and point guard. Ran the offense, handled the pressure. When 'Cats got down early, he made sure the rest of the team did not move away from the game plan. Solid ball handling at the point freed up Vaughn to do this thing.

Said it before and I'll say it again, he is this team's MVP and as he goes, so goes the 'Cats. (Incidentally, I don't think it's a fluke that the 'Cats get beat by St. Johns when Warren plays only 24 minutes because of foul trouble).
