View Full Version : Recruiting Tab
This probably has been addressed before, but why on Bearcatnews do we click on recruiting and only get basketball? With football on the rise and more people with an interest, shouldn't we have a link to football recruiting? Signing is close at hand!!

Football recruiting is usually in the Football forum.
Where in the football forum?

I think that AND, there isn't anyone on the BN team that follows it as closely.
The BBall recruiting has been there mostly because of Mike, who had followed everything BBall for YEARS!!! and is very involved in watching at the HS level.
We are lucky that we have the info that we do have.
I BET however, that the BN staff would gladly take "applications" for a good footbal recruiting guru to take on the challenge! ;)

My thoughts exactly. Not to speak for the BN admins., but I'm sure this takes up quite a bit of their time (pro-bono?). If someone has the knowledge and available time to keep up the football recruiting side, it would be a welcomed addition to the, already, best Bearcat info site.
The guys with real contacts to the football program left the BCN site a couple years back. Tim Adams is really the top guy for UC football, in case you were wondering. Nobody else really has his contacts to get the inside scoop. I can't plug his site (admin rules), but if you go over to any of the other UC boards they will tell you where he is located. I will warn you that it costs money.

Mike, Keith & Brett have run / owned Bearcat News for(ever).
Tim Adams never involved so far as I know?

Tim Adams was a forum member and a frequent forum contributor. He was not part of the official BN team which includes myself, Brett and Mike. We have been approached a few times by BearcatInsider about a possible merger but have decided to remain independent.
BearcatInsider is not doing so well and Tim is no longer with them. Looks like that was a good move to not join up.
And as Keith said, Tim was not an official BCN person, but he was the top guy for "inside" information when he was here. He was all about UC football when nobody else was, hence why he has such good sources now.
At this point I'm not sure BCN could get someone with the kind of sources that Mike has with basketball. There just aren't enough of them out there, and those that do have good sources are already working somewhere else (and getting paid for their work, not doing it for the joy of doing it).

It is an indisputable fact that it takes money to run a website like this one and like BearcatInsider. At a bare minimum, you have web hosting fees and domain registration fees. In BN's case, we also have other expenses (like paying for the software where this forum runs for instance). That is why you see Google ads on this forum and on the main BN website. This allows us to cover our expenses and provide these sites for free. We have no plans to ever change this model.
BearcatInsider has chosen a "paid subscriber" model. This immediately raises the question: does the content on the website justify the cost? For some, it does. For others, it does not.
Now, regarding the question about recruiting a "football recruiting guru", we have put out feelers in the past to enlist someone to fill this role. To date, no one has volunteered. So, football recruiting coverage will continue to be posts on this forum and articles we collect from other websites.

Bearcat News is / was / will continue to be THE BEST Bearcat fan website.

I do follow basketball more than football. Put it this way - today is the AFC and NFC Championship games. I was chatting with a friend of mine (while watching a HS basketball game) and he said "who do you like in the football games today?" I replied "who's playing?" Seriously.
The other factor is that Brian Kelly can offer 85 (?) scholarships and Mick can offer 13. There are numerous HS players fighting for those 13 schollies.
Its just too hard to follow the hundreds of players that are vying for 85 schollies because its hard enough to follow the dozens of players vying for 13. I do this (almost) for free and in my spare time. Kudo's to Tim Adams for his efforts.

Thank God for that.
One suggestion.....why not make donations possible? I'm sure there are more than a couple of members who would do so without being asked. That way people can give what they can afford, if they choose to, without any pressure. It's a nice way of saying thanx.

I don't know about here (BN) but on most forums, click on an Ad or two every day. Oft times, the advertisers pay $ (pennies) to the website based on those clicks.

That's an easy route to take.
