This is linked on the Homepage so I suppose it's fair discussion.
"I think our business planning could have been more front-loaded,” she said. “This is sort of a referendum on what it takes to be competitive in the Big East. I don't think we aspire to be the biggest program in the Big East. But it hits the pocketbook when you talk about comparable facilities. It hits the pocketbook when you talk about comparable coaches' salaries.”
Aim (sort of) high?

We need to aim higher as far as presidents go.
It's impossible to aim lower in that regard. High(er up) is the only way to go.

In fairness, she did not mention that she does not want UC to be the best program in the big east. The biggest program is not necessarily the top. If we are going to pick her words apart
NZ also said in the article: "She acknowledged that the costs of big-time sports, including coach's contracts and practice fields, are kind of surprising to her."
Also in fairness, she opened herself up to a big can of whoop *** here. How do you just now know after 5+ years that college athletics costs as much as it does? That is incredible. She has a lackey in charge of finances with zero finance background who has consistently struggled to understand the major university finances so I guess it is not surprising to me that NZ also does not understand this.

Yeah, I saw that part, too. Z is the lowest letter in the alphabet for a reason.

She has OSU as background - which has the biggest athletic department budget in the country - how can she not know, at least generally, the cost of big time 1A college athletics? Just one more item in a myriad of "strange" things about her.

You guys that have posted on here should be embarrassed. This is not an attempt to defend President Zimpher but your attacks are elementary and imbecile at best. Grow up guys! In other forums, all of you make some really interesting points. When you lower yourself to this childish behavior, you really harm your reputation as a viable participant in relevant discussions.

You got that right. I don't find fault with anything she said. We're obviously not likely to be the biggest program in the BE. UL is drawing over 20000 for bb and is expanding their stadium to 63000. She was never president at OSU.
The continually skyrocketing costs in college athletics are surprising alot of people. Goin spends 100 mill on VV, and before it's even paid for BK makes us realize we're only getting started. Not to mention the way compensation for coaches has taken off in recent years. I don't fault her for being surprised. What matters is that, contrary to what so many know-it-alls predicted, NZ has been fully supportive of our stepping up to the challenges.

I personally think some people are holding back, and not saying how they really feel out of respect for this site. I think showing your disdain for those folks who still have strong feelings makes you appear worse. We are entitled to our feelings, and our opinions. From what I've seen, most of the discussion has been fairly tame, considering the history.

All i am saying is that your song and dance is tired and way out of date. If you wish to continue holding your grudges and petty squabbles with the administration, be my guest. You are the one's that are now appearing childish and foolish. As others have mentioned, your numbers are quickly dwindling, and if you wish to remain in the vocal minority, best of luck. As for me, I will continue to enjoy the enormous strides we are witnessing in both sports, and I will recognize the enormous role that AD Thomas and President Zimpher have played in bringing this about.

Well, I see what you're saying, and you're probably right.....it does get old. That, however, does little to assuage how some fans feel. The same goes for the Bengals and it's ownership. Talk about a long drawn out and miserable relationship that is. My thing is....this one is gonna take time before all wounds are healed. Mick doing well is only going to help.

I have not been saying negative things about the current administration lately. However, its mostly because I don't complain about things I cant change. Its not necessarily because I agree with the current state of things.
I do think things are better. But its easy to forget about problems when you have a successful football team and basketball stands at 4-2 in the Big East. And for now, I'm focused on that.
If I was a hard __s censor, I would delete lots of negativity on this board, but its mostly because I hate negativity.

Nancy Z showed leadership in the face of harsh criticism in doing what needed to be done, the firing of the guy now at WVU. Nancy has shown herself to be UC's cash cow, with contributions of $421,000,000, $20,000,000, 10,000,000, etc., etc., coming UC's way.

You are entitled to express your feelings, and so am I. What impresses me is that no matter how well things go for UC athletics, people who once smugly predicted NZ's goal was to downgrade athletics here still continue to bash her, as if nothing has changed, when in fact everything she's done since the firing of BH proves they were flat wrong. NZ hired a first class AD in Mike Thomas and a rising star in Mick Cronin, after which the administration has fully supported Mick in rebuilding the bb program. NZ has supported and assisted Mike Thomas in increasing compensation for Kelly to 1.3 mill and in making commitments for more facility upgrades in spite of our strapped budget. This strikes me as odd behavior from someone whose goal was supposedly to downgrade and undermine athletics at UC. I don't really expect people to admit they were wrong, but they could at least stop the mindless bashing.

I never said anything like that. I've followed the Bearcats for 50 years and plan to keep on doing just that.

I don't think anyone was referencing your initial post...i think the criticism was more for the childish jabs like
"It's impossible to aim lower in that regard. High(er up) is the only way to go." and
"Z is the lowest level in the alphabet for a reason".
Elementary comments like those are what have grown increasingly old and have no place among legitimate conversation.

This also proves there is no way she had any idea of the "Value" of Coach Huggins and was not qualified to carry out the order herself. If She's admitted two years after that she's still surprised how much could she have really known back then.

Almost anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that when an individual within the institution disgraces your institution it is necessary to remove the individual. Coach Huggins had little value that was not replaceable, the University of Cincinnati has 98% of the "Value". Hence, Mick Cronin has in little more than a year made the UC Basketball program competitive in the Big East.

The UC value was high in late 1950's and early 1960's. Briefly high in mid 1970's. But pretty much low the rest of the 60's - 70's - and all of the 1980's.
Then higher in the 1990's into early 2000's before dropping off in mid 2K's.
UC value HIGH with Smith, Jucker, Catlett, and Huggins.
UC value LOW with Baker, Badger, and Yates.
Right now, UC still LOW but headed towards HIGH again.

Bob Goin knew the value and did her bidding. I'm sure he conveyed the value before doing so.

The coach at WVU disgraced the University and had to go. Dr. Z did not say our degrees were not worth anything, she said she wanted to make them mean more in the future than they do today. I would think that would be the goal of all University President's to make degrees under their admin more meaningful than the previous admins, I am sure the current President of Harvard wants to make Harvard degrees more meaningful in the future than they are today.
