We have been saying the 2008 class will be Mick's first chance to show us what he has got, with a shot at having a top 25 2007 class I think that was a bonus for most of us. This is the class so far according to www.rivals.com
http://cincinnati.rivals.com/commitlist.asp
Gates has been talked about and we know he is going to be a stud. Wilks is who I would like to turn this discussion to, how good is he? I have heard that he may be a project and I have heard he is the next Hakeem Warrick. Will he be athletic enough to play a 3. If we land McClain that would give us:
McClain: 7 foot Center
Gates: Man Child 6'8
Wilks: 6'8
Williams: 6'8
Belton: 6'8 - got a real good frame
This would be a very nice lineup for the 08' year. Please give your comments on Wilks and other potential recruits, I know what were getting with Gates.

Won't Mike Williams be the 3 in '08. Good to have options!!!

Don't know much about Belton, but it sounds like he is defensive presence on the court. If he comes in and plays that role as defensive presence guy that gives you 10-15 minutes and 4 or 5 fouls a game, i.e. Brannen, Fletcher when they were freshmen and he learns under Williams, it's only going to help him when he becomes a upper classmen.

I think the book on Wilkes right now is somewhere better than being just a "project" and probably not deserving the mantle of next Warrick. He is supposed to be freakish athlete, and it sure sounds like Gates is too.
Unlike Gates who may drop some in rankings by the sound of it for whatever reason, it seems that Wilkes could actually climb. They may end up right in that 30-40 range together in the rankings, for whatever thos are worth.

That is very good information. I think the rankings can indicate something but I really look at the schools recruiting them. I believe Gates to be a broad shouldered finisher and it sounds like Wilks is an athlete.

I thought someone had posted a couple of months ago that Wilkes was playing more shooting guard and small forward in his senior year. I could be confusing him with someone else. With Gates his rankings are dropping because of his inconsisent play in the AAU games. He's pretty much only playing when he wants to. I think a lot of that has to do with him already making up his mind he was coming to UC.

He's only 17 so let's not be hasty in judging his desire, but if he really wants to make the NBA, he's going to have to step it up.

Can anyone fill me on on Hyranciuk and Williams. Are both of these guys going to be here this season and if so will they also be eligible for next season? I was under the assumption Hyranciuk had to sit out one year and then could play but not sure how many years of eligibility if any. I also assumed Williams had to sit out one year and would then have two years remaining.

Adam H sat out last as part of the ruling from his participation in a professional league and he loses that year of eligibility. He will be a senior this year, his only season in Div. 1-A hoops. Williams is eligible for next season after sitting out this year as a transfer. Mike can really shoot the ball and is a burly presence in the paint who excels at carving out space and using his long arms and athleticism to score around the basket. Adam is said to more of a jump shooter but unlike some European players isn't afraid to mix it up and get physical.

My friends Dad refs high school basketball and i was talking to him today and he said that Yancy has a great frame and he just controls the paint in all of his games and he also rebounds great and gets a lot of offensive boards...Some bad things he said that he was very lazy at times and did not hustlke back on deffense...he also said that his shooting and free throws were horrible also
