At scout.com, I read that Alvin Mitchell has already signed the letter of intent, and sent it back to UC. Anyone else heard the same thing?

Maybe someone else can confirm, but I had heard that they were waiting until Henry got back from Spring break to announce the signings toegeher and Mitchell's was in. Hopefully, they are waiting to announce or waiting to recieve another LOI that has been mentioned a lot here today in McClain.

Why would they release the info on Gates and then hold off on McClain? I hope you're right.

The Gates info was just a verbal. The other three would be letters of intent that hold water. These three will enter the class together (in my optimistic hope) with the other early signing period recruits and Mick wants them to do it together.

Also, it may be for one press conference with everyone.

I have no inside information, but the fact that they are waiting for Henry to announce Mitchell's gives me this conspriacy theory.

Maybe McClain wants to be the one to break the news and announce on his own. As I've posted before on other threads, the McClain/Georgetown connection and situation really scares me. I hope I'm worrying unnecessarily.

If there is one thing to be sure of, it's that KinDog will worry about a recruit until he is on campus. How about a little faith in your fellow Lancer KinDog. He already "landed"(if a verbal can be called that) a potentially great inside player today, what's one more top post player for Coach C, all in a day's work if you ask me! All joking aside, if he is going to commit soon then maybe that is a good sign since big Roy at GTown could technically still pull his name out since he has yet to sign with an agent.

"They" would be Gates and Dees, not the University. The University and the coaching staff cannot publicly comment on unsigned recruits.

Thanks Mike, I get the picture now. Can the coaches even announce a verbal commitment or does that have to be done by the player or a media outlet? Is it total silence for coaches until letter of intent? How do we find out who Mick is recruiting...scout sites, inside sources and players only?

It seems a bit strange that a coach can fly across country to meet with a player and then have to plead the fifth about the whole thing.

Can anyone who has learned a lot about Alvin Mitchell compare him to a player that is playing or has played? Doesn't have to be for UC, I just want to know what kind of player he is.

A coach cannot comment on a player until he has signed his letter of intent, just the rules of the game. I think from most of the posts and recruiting bios on the site everyone has a pretty good idea of who Mick is recruiting.

That is where you get the "silent verbal". A silent verbal is when a player tells a coach he is going to go there, but doesn't tell anyone else (media, etc.) about the decision.

Thanks Iknow. Yes, I'm aware of who we are recruiting because of this site. My question had to do with how and where does that info come from. If not coaches I am assuming that media and scouts are calling the players directly to find out. Is that correct?

Good sources of information are players' high school and AAU coaches, teammates, players themselves, sometimes parents handle their kids recruitments as well and they give out most of the info. It's different for every player obviously and some love to talk while others are extremely private. Also if one attends high school or AAU games where coaches are allowed you can see which coaches attend what games, read pay sites where they mention what coaches were in attendance, etc.
