Any chance that Bishop could into an Immanuel McElroy type player next year? It would be great to have that lockdown perimeter defender like UC has had in the past. It would also be nice if he could play that point forward in the half court offense that McElroy did as both Vaughn and Wright are big scorers. This might also reduce the need for bringing in a back-up PG.

I watched that 2002 UC-Marquette game a few days ago on ESPN Classic, and had completely forgotten how quick IMac was at the end of the year. He had really turned into a player. He made some amazing drives & dishes.

And man that team was loaded. Stokes as a role player? Maxiell coming off the bench as a Freshman? wow. That's the team that didn't lose at home all year, and should have made big noise in the tournament. Freaking UCLA...

Damn goaltend no-call. That UCLA game was actually kind of a surreal experience for me. I was en route to Miami, FL and made sure to time it out so that I could stop somewhere in SC to watch the game. Happened to be in Columbia and found that a Damon's was really my only option as far as good viewing.
As I walked up to the door I could hear that it was pretty rowdy. When I opened the door I was actually hearing the "Ohhhhhh, Ohhhhhh, Ohhhhh....UC". Couldnt beleive it. I guess the women's team was playing in the NCAAs in Columbia the next day and their whole team, cheerleading squad, an fans were all there. Frustrating game, but I'll always remember how cool it was to be in the south cheering on the Cats with such a huge group in such an unexpected setting.

Sorry, about the off topic ramble.

ON TOPIC:
I really dont forsee any from this group transfering. It seems as though everyone has bought into the team concept. National titles have been won with solid 10 man (or more) rotations.

Imac is my all time favorite Bearcat...the guy was a stud with his perimeter defense. I still love that team to death. Logan was a joy to watch, Stokes was a class act... Maxiell eats babies.

I still think that UCLA game was one of the most well played games on both sides I have ever seen. Stokes was a man that game. UCLA just got a few more breaks...the no call goal tend was already mentioned... the airball at the end of the shotclock that landed in Kapono's lap...the bank three pointer... the no call foul at the end of the first OT...

UC played great that game, UCLA played great that game...UCLA got a few more break and was more talented... UC just had a spectacular team that played together so well. That team could have made it deep... oh well.

I think it would more likely be Mitchell than Bishop that develops into that role. Of course, I could also see Mitchell developing into a Pete Mickeal-type player as well. Baased on my observations, I believe Mitchell has better ball-handling skills than Bishop and could play some SG while Vaughn or Wright sits.

Still the only #1 seed in Bearcat history and only 30+ W team, too.

100% Mick Cronin recruits on that team.

Funny you mention that because I just watched that game and thought how amazing it was that this team won 30 games despite NOT being loaded at all. Other than Logan who else on that team was a bonified stud? Maxiel was just a freshman, Stokes flamed out in the NBDL, IMac was just a role player, Davis was just an average power forward, Don Little was ... no explanation needed on him. That had to be the most over achieving team during Huggins tenure.

I think sometimes fans look back at past UC players and their fandom makes them remember players as being much better than they really were. That UCLA team was loaded and had several future NBA players. They were preseason Top 5. If not for the poor coaching and player management skills of Steve Lavin that team could have been a #1-3 seed.

Plus you guys are forgetting about Field on that squad... that UCLA game was such b.s. ..... right after I-Mac dunked to put us up 11 midway thru the second half, UCLA got by far and away the LUCKIEST 6-point play of all-time. Matt Barnes bricked 3 off the back rim bounced around and fell in, then they call that hold on Donald, they inbound it and he hits another 3... then a fast break dunk and we go from having tons of momentum to only being up by 4

gimme a break

We wont need him to be a backup point gaurd anyhow and he wont become the type of player Immanuel was..he was the best perimeter defender i have seen at uc in the 12 or so years iv been closely following them

UCLA also shot really well that game..there were upsets in our region that year too we could of came out of our region..I think UCLA made the elite 8

UCLA lost to the 13 seed in the sweet 16... Missouri Tigers... another incredibly talented, underachieving regular season team.

The fact that Gadzuric didn't get a friggin' foul called on him until about 10 minutes left in the game sticks in my mind. I was at the game, was fortunate enough to get my name drawn in the student lottery. The Gadzuric thing, and the fact that you can't buy beer almost anywhere in Pennsylvania are the two things that I really remember from that trip.

i think Bishop will be one of the better Players out of this 6 player freshman class...he's 6-6, 200 something, athletic, and has a nice jumper (of course he does, he's a LEFTY).....he's a player, no doubt....this freshman class is one of the deepest i've seen in a while at UC...top to bottom, the best so far being Bishop/Mitchell...the worst so far beign Wilks (playing time). future is bright

While that 2002 team may not have had a lot of talented players, I think it may have had the highest basketball IQ - Logan, I-Mac, Davis knew how to play the game. It was fun to watch them develop as the season went along.

Davis was incredible passing out of the high post.

I-Mac grew in his offense. In the end, he added dropping 3 pointers.

In the UCLA game, I-Mac had a wide open 3 pointer to win the game (and Leonard was in position to rebound). [By the way, I think that is good coaching].

Still sucks thinking about how they out executed the UCLA team, but it wasn't our day.

Go Cats!

UCLA's team included the following NBA players (from what I can remember):
Jason Kapono
Earl Watson
Dan Gadzuric
Trevor Ariza
Matt Barnes
Jerome Moiso

How that team didn't perform better in the regular season is beyond me.

They didn't have Moiso, Ariza, or Watson on that team. They did have Cedrick Bozeman and Terry Cummings' son.

We had 2 NBA draft picks on our team, including a 1st team all american. We were a 1 seed, they were a very talented, underachieving 8 seed. It was an upset.
