View Full Version : Rebounding Next Year

Over the last two years the best/most consistent rebounders have been Williamson and Warren. Do you think the 'cats will miss the rebounding from those positions? I think a little stronger and deeper frontcourt will probably grab the rebounds those guys are getting but, especially with Warren, it has been nice to get rebounds from the back court.
It seems like stronger frontcourt players like Gates and Williams will be able to grab those boards. And I think the combo of Bishop and Mitchell should get some boards form the #3.

Mick has said that Cashmere will rebound similar to the way Warren does now. And with Mike and Yancy down low. I think we'll be just fine in the rebounding dept.

Rebounding is effort. Mick will make sure the effort is where it needs to be.

I hope Mick gets these guys in the weight room to beef them up like huggs did. That physical toughness can't be taught and its always good to have those bruisers that can knock people around. In that way, i like what gates and belton will be able to provide.

Wilks is the only one who desperately needs to hit the weights...mic should just slip him a little HGH haha

I dont think that rebounding will drop off, in matter of fact i think we could even be a lilttle better. Yancy and mike will be big additions on the boards as mboston said. not to mention that mcclain is only going to get more comfortable playing college basketball, and hopefully he will put on some muscle.

Vaughn is a good rebounder, and I think Mitchell and Bishop will be fine. I'm not worried about the big men.

You're right. I always forget to throw williams into the equation. If they can get that 6th year for mike, their front court will be brutal with him, Biggie, Yancy, and Belton in 2 yrs.

Just a thought but it seems to me there are plenty of games left in this season so why worry about what will happen next season.

McClain could stand some improvement in strength and a little bulk, and Belton can be a monster with weight training. As in the past, the weight training will vastly increase in April after THIS season.

Umm... cause UC is going to be awesome next season. Is there something wrong with getting pumped up for a team that's going to have the personnel to do some SERIOUS damage in the NCAAs?

Alot of people are talking about next year.....it's great that the team is exceeding expectations, but I find it hard to get too excited about a .500 season. I'm greedy.

I feel sorry for you. I hope your life is not based on the anticipation/expectation of something better will happen next year. You should be relishing this year as this team continues to astound me with their effort and desire to prove all the ney sayers wrong. I understood looking ahead last year, but you really are missing something now.

I feel sorry for you if you accept a losing season. Some people actually have high expectations. I'm an ND fan, and a 3-9 season is unacceptable. That doesn't mean that it wasn't fun to watch, or that I didn't support the team...it is what it is, and better times are ahead.
But you telling me how I have to be a fan is laughable. Thank you for that.

How could this season not be meeting your high expectations? What did you expect?

Nobody said how you have to be a fan. Everybody has there own impressions of what a good fan is. Accepting this season as a down season and looking to the future might be your way. But others, including myself, don't see this season as a loss yet. I agree that you are missing out on something now. I, too, believe that everyone should relish in what successes we are having now. What's more exciting? Doing what is expected? Or exceeding those expectations? But then again, these are just my opinions.
I also think ND's situation is about as polar opposite of a situation as possible to UC's. I feel sorry that you even compared them. ND was a team that everybody was expecting to win, but didn't. UC is a team that most thought were not going to win, and now they are getting great quality wins. Again, this goes back to exeeding expectations versus not meeting them.

I never told you how to be a fan. I never said poor seasons by talented teams should be acceptable. I simply thought you are missing out on a memorable season, by an undermaned team that was picked to finish last in the big east. A team that NOBODY thought could or would have beaten the teams that they have. If your always looking at next year, you'll miss this one.

Your expections are not everyone else's. I don't think Mick expected a .500 season, at least I hope not. If you have low expectations, don't pin that on me. Now just because reality smacks us and says....ok, we may not be good enough to win 20 games, doesn't mean I have to like it, and yes......I know plenty of fans who are already looking to next year. ****....aren't there threads in here looking at line-ups for not only next year, but the next three years??
They ain't doing that because they are necessarily happy with the results from this year.
Frankly, they are not meeting my expectations....so I guess you can continue your low expectations, and be happy when the team meets them. You can feel sorry for me, but your low expectations are (in my mind) sad.
As far as ND, not everyone came in expecting to win this year...but regardless of the outcome, most ND fans expect to win 10 games a year. So winning 8 or 9, while exceeding SOME of those with lower expectations.....ain't good enough for me either.
Don't project your expectations on others, and whether or not you think the team has exceeded them.....as that is the epitome of arrogance.
I luv how people feel sorry for me.......why, because I think differently.....this is stupid message board garbage. I feel sorry for me for even replying.

Trust me, nobody feels sorry for you. And nobody really cares about your expectations. And, you can take this to the bank, UC fans REALLY couldn't care less what Notre Dame expected. The bottomline is that UC fans are excited about this year's team because they're exceeding expectations. This is a team coming off 2 wins in the Big East and was completely rebuilt. None of the players on this year's roster were even at UC two years ago, and none of them were recruited by Bob Huggins. If you came into this season expecting 18 to 20 wins then you're delusional. Even Mick didn't expect that. He HOPED for that, but didn't expect it. At this point UC has played TEN teams who were ranked at one point this season or were ranked when UC played them. Now if you came into this season expecting that a team constructed of freshmen, sophomores and JUCOs were going to take care of business then you're REALLY delusional. For the record, fans are looking towards next year because they were given hope from THIS year. They saw this team play hard and improve as the season went on and the fans knew that if this team had the experience it has now at the beginning of the season we would be winning. Well, next year's team will have that, and a strong recruiting class. It's ironic that you complain that UC fans shouldn't project their expectations on you, then you felt the need to project UC fans' reasons for being excited about next year. It has nothing to do with being disappointed about this season and everything to do with being encouraged about this season. Heck, this the season isn't even over yet and UC still has a chance to into the NIT or NCAA Tournament.

Also, it's obvious that McClain's foot is bothering him. So he'll have all offseason to heal once this season, and hopefully postseason, is over with.

I dont understand the hostility towards Irishbearcat's statement. I couldnt agree more with his point(s), for whatever it's worth. I dont think he ever said he wasnt a fan or didnt enjoy and/or appreciate this years team. I think we all understand the predictament NZ put the program in and Mick has done a unbelievable job so far. This year has definitely been exciting and I love the kid's effort. His point, which is completely valid, is that a possible .500 year or NIT birth, albeit beyond expectations, isnt what a uc fan wants to see. How can we not look forward to next year? I mean as much all the talk of recruits on here we'd kidding ourselves that we dont look to the future and to restoring the elite program we are. Dont forget what team you're rooting for. WE ARE THE CINCINNATI BEARCATS....it's ok to be happy with this year but NIT bids dont cut it and the sooner we get back to dominating year in and year out I will not be satisfied. Do you guys think Carolina, UK, Kansas, etc get excied with mediocrity? No and we are close to their class in program tradition. There's no better thing than looking forwards to a bright future for our Cats. Here's to us going to us enjoying March Madness next year.

So now I'm delusional? You're an *****. There is more infighting in this board than the other four boards I go to combined. I offer an opinion, and I get lambasted for it?? Do something better with your time, as I intend to.

Some of the views expressed in this thread are why coaches dont have jobs after 3 years at a college. Fans are just insane with their expectations. Some fans even wanted Weis fired after this year, kind of like what they did to Willingham...

All they have to do (in comparison to this season) is eliminate 4 or 5 bad losses like they had early in the season, and do about as well in the Big East next season as they're doing now, and they will be dancing next year.
As for some of the comments about McClain, the announcers mentioned during the last game that McClain has gained 30 pounds since he arrived at UC.

McClain will be a beast....look at Hibbert, he wasnt a "force" really untill his Junior year, he put on muscle and learned the game, same thing McClain is gonna do. By Year 3 or 4, with McClain and Yancy......forget about it. Its gonna be sick
