Stop messin around and makin unforced turnovers and just whoop some a$$

I luved St. Johns back in the day....now, I just want them to be fodder. GO UC!

Lets not overlook them like last time. This is going to be a very competitive game. They beat us by 12 at their place. And have won 3 straight Big East games. 2 straight on the road. Reguardless of who it was against winning on the road in this league is impressive.

Marcus Hatten is still one of my all time favorite college players. Talk about a gunner.

win # 2 in what should be a 3 game Big East winning streak to get the Cats to 8-5 in conference.

Well based on his comments, Jamaul Warren is certainly ready to redeem himself tonight. I think that bodes well for the 'Cats.

For all those interested in post-season discussion (NIT, NCAA)....this is a MUST WIN game.

If they win....it does nothing very beneficial to their "resume".

If they lose...their tourney hopes are somewhere near Kentucky's.

You left out the CBI. What is MUST is finishing 5-2 for a 16-14 overall record, you cannot go post Big East Tourney without a winning record.

Wow...ugly game so far. By both teams and the refs, who apparently left their whistles in the locker room. Normally I'm all for that, but if they're not going to call anything, the game could actually get even uglier.

OK, so since I posted that they've called 5 fouls in 2 minutes. lol

Cats look lost.

02-13-2008, 07:35 PM
yeah, all we need now is a "Winter Storm Warning" window and we'll be able to see about 1/2 the screen!

so far, this is a squandered opportunity to be up by double digits. You'd think after the first St. John game, and given Warren's comments, the Cats would come out with more of a focused attack.

Slow, ugly game so far. Vaughn has 0 points so far. UC needs to run some plays to get him more looks.

I like what I'm seeing from Larry Davis tonight. It's nice to have someone that can put the ball in the basket when Vaughn is off.

02-13-2008, 07:49 PM
Wow, St. John was 5 out of 22 from the floor in the first half, and we're only up by 3.

jkwuc89
02-13-2008, 07:50 PM
Up 3 at half. Williamson is the leading scorer with 11 points. I think UC missed a golden opportunity to build a huge lead because St. John's shooting has been woeful . Need a big 2nd half from Vaughn and a continued scoring presence from Williamson.

Cats by 12... We have to keep up the energy. Davis looks good, Biggie seems a bit timid but nice to see him get some pt instead of Adam. We can't let up on them like we did with uconn.

Bearcats have very quietly turned this into a blow-out. Really nice to see JWill put together a great follow-up to his coming out party against Rutgers.
If someone could give Vaughn some smelling salts before the first half for now on, that would really help.

I think 20 is the magic number for Miller.

25 pt lead with 4 min's left - ESPN2 leaves the game (hate them), wow, SJ's just completely fell apart. How did the Cats lose to this team so badly a month ago?

55-30. It is nice to see JWill and then Vaughn go to the bench to standing "O's"

ESPN just cut away to UCONN/Notre Dame, good game UCONN up for with 25 secs left

2 minutes left, there is a Wilks sighting and Miller is at the scorer's table - Belton just made both his free throws.

Defensive effort. Hold St. Johns to just 12 baskets.
They are shorthanded with Mason out. Did a good job on Burrell. We are plus 27 at their best position. Our press was very effective without giving up many easy baskets. Press serves a purpose by taking opponent out of their comfort zone. Tried to speed things up a little. Got some extra practice time. Have not had a lot of time to work on that. Guys did a great job tonight with the press.

You cannot give them lay-ups because they struggle to score. Took away their interior game. At their place, we paraded them to the FT line. Not as much tonight. Need to make teams beat you from the floor, not from the FT line.

I always like to press. You need to be athletic enough and deep enough to do it. We played it smart tonight. Usually, you give up more baskets when you press. Giving up just 43 points is good.

St. John's is a team we are really capable of shutting down. We did not give Burrell open looks. We struggled offensively in the 1st half. Vaughn is a tired player right now. Fortunately, we don't play again until next Wednesday. Vaughn needs some rest and he will get it.

Davis keeps in you the ball game in the first half. 10 points, no turnovers. Larry was the key to the game. You won the game for your team tonight. Eight big points in the 1st half. He loosened up St. John's defense. What he did in the 1st half opened up Williamson. Davis has great quickness. I try not to over coach at times on offense. He can beat people off the dribble. He has the quickness and the speed to do this. Great attitude all year. He has got to get fundamentally sound.

Outscored St. John's 36 to 12 in the paint. If you shoot 2 footers and we shoot 20 footers, you are going to win the game. That happened against Marquette. We improved greatly on in the past week. We always try to limit points in the paint on the other end. When John gets a dribble or two and gets his head up, he finishes every time. When you get your head up, you get more lift. We hope we can keep him playing like this. We need him to make the run we would like to make.

Nice to see that Mick seems to be fine-tuning rather than having to just teach fundamentals.

I am in Connecticut on business. I went to a bar @ about 6:30 to eat and watch the UC game. At about 7, a big group of UCONN fans came into watch the UCONN-Notre Dame game and I already had ESPN2 on the big screen, and the bartenter wouldn't change it. They were pissed. I had some good big east conversation with some UCONN fans and they had nothing but good things to say for UC and the future of the program. Good to get some respect from the rest of the conference. GO CATS!

I'll be honest, if I went to a bar in Cincinnati and wanted to watch a UC game, but someone was in from Connecticut and they wouldn't put the UC game on the big screen, I'd be pretty ticked at that bartender. I probably wouldn't patronize that establishment again in the future, either. Especially if it was a matchup against another top 25 team.

I was once in a bar in Columbus back in the pre-marvin era where they would not change a t.v. from women's figure skating to put the Bengals game on even though no one was actually watching the skating. Never went back there again.

wasn't able to watch the game, did it look like Bishop was just going thru the motions again. It seems like he isn't in flow with the game like he was a month or so ago.

to me some of the players play trying not to make a mistake, knowing a mistake will most likely land em on the bench.....that just comes with confidence.....Bishop needs to work on his jumper, needs to be more consistent.
