I have seen some conflicting reports on the size of some recruits. I can check the roster for current players but how do I find or verify the actual height and weight of our recruits? Is there one source more credible than the rest? Can anyone tell me for sure on these: Especially Henry and Mitchell who have a 2" difference in reported height.

McClain (6'11/225)
Hyranciuk (6'10/225?)
Williams (6-7/240)
Belton (6'8/235)
Bishop (6'6/215)
Henry (6'6/190)
Mitchell (6'5/200)
Davis (6'3/190)
Gates (6'9/235) Class of 08'
Wilkes (6'8/205) Class of 08'
McElroy (6'7/225) class of 09'

The only one I couldn't find a listed weight for was Hyranciuk. I had to make a call between different reported heights on a few guys.

Good luck with that one. Only the NBA gives the players true size. You will see and here different sizes throughtout the players entire college career.

. . . how do I find or verify the actual height and weight of our recruits?

There is only one surefire way. . . .stand next to them.

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks.

I guess the best bet is to go with the shorter of two reported heights and if there is a 2" gap take the one in the middle.

Despite the lack of a true tall center I do like what I see in the incoming recruits....fairly good size. If you do a quick average of those players mentioned above you get 6'-6.5". That's good size to average. Add in one true tall center like McClain and that average rises to 6'-7"+.

Height doesn't mean a whole lot, look at Eric Hicks. When he was measured he was 6'5 & 1/2 in socks and look what he did. These guys are no eric hicks but just to prove a point.

As none of these guys have played a minute for us. I think it is premature to assess them as "no Eric Hicks". Yancy Gates, Jason Henry and maybe Darnell Wilkes all have higher national reputations than did Eric when he first arrived. Let's see what kind of drive and talent they bring to the table before pre-assessing their production.

Height does matter, just look at all the teams in the Final 4. It isn't everything, but you need it to go deep into the tournament. I loved Hicks, but he was a PF, not a C. Just imagine how good he would have been with a true center along side of him.

I think UCnut was commenting on the heart of Erick Hicks and how his size didn't hold him back from playing huge.

On the other hand I agree with the last two posts. It's too early to tell what we have coming in terms of heart and size definitely matters (in basketball too). A single player's size not as much as the overall size of the baseline. If we can get any of the big men to play with the heart of Hicks we will have a nice team this year. I can't wait to get back to physical intimidation basketball!
