The other teams near us in the standings have either been losing to the top teams or beating eachother... and Pitt plays Syracuse this wknd and then West Va after that...

If we split these last 4 games, and finish 10-8, we should be able to stay out of that 8/9 game in the BE Tourney by finishing 7th...

If we somehow start making every shot and go 3-1, we can get to that 6th spot and then play some yay like Seton Hall or DePaul in the first round...

Also, beating Providence and DePaul at home aint gonna be easy for the record

I thought you just said Depaul was a yay?

I think we should focus on getting into the NIT or whatever that other 16 team tourney is going to be. It'd be nice to see this group of seniors who have endured a lot of tough times and stuck it out for 2 years, to have a chance at winning a tourney. Maybe it's just me, but that's more satisfying to me than losing in the first round of the NCAA, especially given how this season began.

If other teams lose, it does not make UC a better team. It may improve UC's place in the standings, but does nothing to help UC score more points, get more defensive stops, get more rebounds, and most importantely does nothing to improve their chances at a post-season birth.

If anything, it means that the Big East could potentially get less teams into the post season. There is no quota for how many BE teams must get invited to the dance.

IMO....this may also hurt UC's chances at an invite to the NIT. (With less BE teams in the NCAA....there will be more teams (with better overall records) to choose from for the NIT.

Best thing for UC is to KEEP WINNING GAMES.

If the Bearcats are in a post season tourney after the Big East tourney that will be just dandy.

I don't see us doing much of anything, so I'll take what whatever comes along.

I think BasketBySteveLogan was thinking about the seed in BE tourny. If the Cats can win 3 of the last four, they may hang on to the sixth or seventh seed, which will increase the probability of winning the first round at MSG. Barring a miracle, they're dead in the second round.

If they win the 2 at home and their first round game at MSG that would leave them @ .500, and I kind of think that might be enough, considering how they would have closed the season and the loss of the point guard in the early games, for an NIT bid. On Christmas Day, 2007 how many of us thought that on February 26, 2008 UC would have virtually clinched making the BEast tourney, much less being under real consideration for even more post season play. Say what you will about him, it's hard to argue against the proposition that Cronin has done a masterful job THIS year in getting THIS team into THIS kind of position, whatever happens the rest of the year.

Somewhat off topic but if UC gets an invite to the CBI tourney I hope they decline the invite. The 64/65 team NCAA and the 32 team NIT is enough teams for post season play. I think we have a shot at both tourneys, although a long shot for the NCAA. If we dont make either I'm personally not the least bit interested in CBI, rather than a flattering invite I'd say it's much closer to a joke. Any thoughts?

If they get invited to post season it will be taken no matter what tourney does the inviting. There is money at stake and the University is in no position to be turning down $$. Also, the extra practice time and experience in any post season is going to go a long way next year.

The Big East Tourney is March 12-15

The 1st round of the CBI is March 18-19

The "extra pactice time" is not really relevant in college basketball. (Absolutely in football.... Basketball - not so much).

I do agree though on the value gained from experience.

I would go to any post season tournament we can. It doesnt matter what kind of tournament it is... The Conference, the NCAA, the NIT, or the CBI. The tournament experience and exposure... no matter what it is... will be valuable for this young team. I know when I was in high school and would have different tournaments in wrestling and even if it was just a small one... I would have nerves and be excited about it. To see my competition and their record and look ahead to possibilities of who my competition would be in future matches... well it was good experience for me when I was in the bigger and better tournaments... A tournament atmosphere is a tournament atmosphere....

We haven't been "hot" all year. I'm hoping we suddenly get "hot". It would be about time.
