View Full Version : I looks like WVU was not his dream job after all

Greg Doyal of CBS Sportsline on the Lance McCalister Show yesterday stated that Bob Huggins applied for the Arkansas job as soon as Stan Heath was fired. I also have heard that Bob inquired about the South Florida job when they fired their coach. It seems that Bob's dream job was actually "anywhere but Kansas State". He did Kansas State wrong and the kids he recruited to Bob Huggins U wrong.

So Doyal is stealing material from Jason Whitlock now. Although Whitlock's "story" is better for your "cause" as he claimed that Huggins called multiple people at Arkansas and nobody would return his calls.
Your use of urban legends just keeps getting "better". The only connection Huggins had with USF was to strongly recommend that they hire Frank Martin for the job.

All indications from wvu people are that he didn't turn down the job in 2002, it simply "did not work out"
Huggs is all about Huggs.
Great to see Cronin starting to turn it around at UC.

I don't understand why everybody cares so much. Coaches leave all the time especially when they have the chance to go home. It doesn't matter if they are there for 1 year or 5 they still will be leaving players and recruits.

Coach Huggins has become UC's version of Bob Knight or Woody Hayes. He has become a very polarizing figure. His success at UC was tremendous. But, it did not come without some warts. I think UC fans as a whole fall into one of three groupings.
To some fans, he simply cannot be criticized and any attempt to do so is viewed as near sacrilege. Furthermore, his dismissal from UC will never be forgiven and those responsible for his dismissal should be immediately terminated.
To some (I like to think I belong in this category), he is greatly appreciated for everything he did here. But his accomplishments do not make him immune from constructive criticism.
To some, despite his accomplishments, his misdemeanors fully warranted his dismissal. One could say that some folks in this group are glad that he is gone.
Coach Huggins will forever be part of the rich history of UC basketball. Because of this, I expect there to be continued discussion about him regarding is past, present and future.

He is greatly appreciated for everything he did here. But his accomplishments do not make him immune from fair, factual and constructive criticism. However, those responsible for his dismissal should be immediately terminated.
Now you're on to something ;)

I think in a couple of years we all might be glad he's gone. No disrespect to him, but a lot of respect for Mick. Time will tell.

I will never be glad that Huggins is gone.
I do hope, however, to be very glad that Mick is here.

Gregg Doyel is a weak choice as a source of truth on any subject.

I really don't think people will ever be glad he is gone. He is a future Hall of Fame coach that did great things for this program. That doesn't mean we won't move on and support Mick. I just don't plan on ignoring the past and everything great that Huggins gave us.
