I remember a game where the opposing team (don't remember who) was shooting free throws and the ref. said it was a 1 and 1. Guy missed the first shot and Levett rebounded the ball and dribbled down and nailed the 3 for the lead/tie.
Needless to say it didn't count because the team was actually in the double bonus and the ref. had given the wrong sign.

Some of the best finishes I remember and wish I had on film:
- Levett's dunk to beat Duke in Alaska
- Kenyon single-handedly beating DePaul iin the 2nd half n Chicago his Sr. year
- Fortson taking 6 steps on after a full-cour pass to beat Tulane at the buzzer
- Durden making all 3 FT's against Wyoming

Actually it was really a one and one everyone thought it was 2 shots but levitt so he got the rebound everyone stared at him shoot the 3 and the refs huddled and called it off. Then uc got the dead ball and didn't score

It was at Charlotte during the '98-'99 seaon. We were 15-0 and ranked number 3. I remember that same year Levett hit a winning shot at Minnesota. I can't remember if it was a three or a two, but it was at the buzzer.

Satt's late 3 to beat Memphis at the Pyramid. I think that was a good one, especially considering what an unlikely candidate he was to be taking that shot. Still wish he had decided to stay. He was a fine point guard. I believe he could have been great had he hung around.

Nick Van Exel's 3 at the buzzer to beat UAB 40-38 in 1993... then he just ran off the court holding up one finger
Now THAT was cold blooded Nicky!

I am kind of surprised that teams don't try to package and sell tapes of old games. With a distribution mechanism like iTunes, you could do it online and have almost no distribution or manufacturing costs. I suppose teams would need permission from the networks to do this for previously televised games. Perhaps that is the roadblock?

it was Alvin Mitchell that hit the 3 against Minn... not to be mistaken with this year's frosh Alvin Mitchell... this boy was a transfer from Nebraska... he only played at UC for a year because of family issues. But he lit it up against Minn... I recall him having a deep deep 3 against Duke in the Great Alaskan Shootout.
The game that Levett got screwed on was definitely Charlotte... god i hate that team, and more specifically Diego Guavara and the kisses he would blow to his fat, ugly wife.
I loved it when they came to play us at the Shoe later that season and Levett hit a huge 3 late in the second half and Mel blew a few kisses to the home crowd at mid court... the place was going nuts.

I remember Jermaine Tate playing well against Minn. that year. He took a key charge or made a steal late in the game, I can't recall which. Anyone remember? Minnesota had Quincy Lewis that year, who was really good.
I think Alvin Mitchell played with Pete Mickeal at Indian Hills J.C. as well.

The Levett shot was made from a bit longer than half court, but was disallowed because of an inadvertant whistle by the official. The Bearcats inbounded the ball again, and this time could not score.
The play I won't forget is Miles Simon sinking the 3 point shot from the foul line at the opposite end of the floor as time ran out in our 7-Up Shootout game versus Arizona at the neutral site in Phoenix.
I also remember Darnell Burton being tackled by Iowa St and called for traveling in the NCAA 2nd round in Detroit.

While it may appear that a call or a non-call or a disputed play near the end of the game caused a loss, a closer evaluation of the game tape will probably reveal several points in the game where a team could have made the end-of-game call or disputed play irrelevant.
Example: When UC lost to WVU on a last second 3 in the 2nd round of the 1998 NCAA tournament, if one looks at the game tape, one will see a team that turned the ball over 22 times, 8 by the PG alone. The box score for this game is here (http://www.bearcatnews.com/bearcats/basketball/archives/boxscore.php?ID=2124). This more than anything else was the cause for this loss.
I have heard many coaches say that a team should not put itself in a position where a fluky play or a bad call can result in a defeat, especially to a team that one should beat relatively easily.
We have tapes of many games in the Huggins era. I live in Atlanta and for years my Dad taped every game and mailed them to me. Gosh, I love my dad.
One game we don't have is the Final of 1998 Great Alaskan Shootout, which was on ESPN Classic this past Tuesday, actually early Wed morning (3 AM). The talent level on the 1998 team was great. Mickeal was at SF. Mitchell and Levett were in the backcourt and from what I saw, Logan and Little were on the bench the whole game. Fletcher made the full court inbounds pass that won the game.
Did I mention that I hate Duke and coach K?

ESPN, which is part of the Mouse Machine, would never let this happen when they have ESPN Classic.

That was the year Ruben was suspended at the beginning of the year. They were giving away "Free Ruben" sandwiches for a short while to get Ruben unshackled by the NCAA. Brannen was a MAN that year while Patterson was out. He put the team on his back that year and should be really proud of his effort, I know I was.
