View Full Version : Recruiting Chatter

It appears that as the Ky. State Tourny has gone on that the recruiting chatter has died down. Though I'm sure Mick and Co. are looking at more recruits than just Mr. Hopson, everything seems centered around him. This would be a great pick up for a program rebuilding. Recruiting has a domino effect so if we can land a recruit of Hopson's stature and follow it up with a good season it could be huge for '09 and '10 recruiting. From a more practical view point though I believe another point guard, not combo guard, or another center is more important. Keith Brumbaugh is a very high level talent, but he would probably not play the 5 in the BEast. He is simply too thin. He is also considered more of a 3 I believe. Could be that with McClain, Aldridge, Williams, Gates, and Belton that Mick is happy. I want an animal that thinks every rebound belongs to them. I also would like to know we have two true point guards on the roster. It will be interesting to see where this all takes us.

I thought this thread was about a poster from over at bbs. No need to recruit him, he's already here.

Is a roomer anything like a rumor?

Hopson's not here. Brumbaugh's not here. He was referring to "Chatter", certain poster. Hence the thread title.

I'm not sure but I think the guy was being funny about the fact that there might be a poster named Chatter over at bbs. The thread is named "Recruiting Chatter" so he was playing on the words.

I think we have a great shot at landing Hopson- because he will be joining a dominant big man, a highly ranked point guard, and the best guard in the Chicago Public League.. none of which play HIS position
Plus we have Mick recruiting him. Mick has a great track record.
Gotta be worried about Tennessee though, with all the national exposure and the fun wide open style of play. Also of course Miss St, since he originally verballed there, plus theyve had a good season.
McD's Game is in a week, we'll find out soon enough

Do the pearl to Indiana rumors help here? I am sure they don't hurt.

Pearl to IU? Wow I havent heard anything about that. It seems like the possibilty of that happening are slim to none. He wouldn't be jumping to a better conference. I'm sure UT would match a $ offers and with IU's upcoming sanctions it would be a rough couple of years. Hopefully the rumors keep swirling though cuz yeah it cant hurt.

Pearl got his head coaching start at Southern Indiana so there is a tie there. He said on HBO's sports program with Costas that he fully expects them to come calling and transition is part of the college basketball world.
The IU sanctions might be the sticking point, but we are talking about a school where basketball is god vs. a school where men's hoops is third behind football and women's hoops.
In regards to Hopson, the recruiting page lists him as a 5, but in many papers they don't even show the Bearcats in the running. What gives??

I don't want to step on any toes from the pay sites but I have seen that a Guard has visited UC. I am assuming the guard was here over the weekend. Does anyone know who that would be?

If Hopson played here, I would die of shock. That said, I hope it works out.

I am wondering the same thing. I was watching a local late news show in Lexington this weekend and Hopson said that the schools on top of his list were Miss St, Kentucky, and Tennessee. I honestly was waiting for UC to come out of his mouth and it didn't. Maybe he was just naming the schools that care to the SEC region?

Wonder if it is Chris Turner? He is a SG out of Texas that the 'Cats are supposedly talking to.

Did some looking searching on Chris Turner through Scout and Rivals. He is listed as a 6'5 shooting guard with strengths as an ability to create his own shot and score and apparently can score from all over the place. Definitely would fill a need as a scorer that this team needs for next year. Although it does concern me that maybe we are not in as strongly with Hopson as originally thought. I don't like that Hopson did not mention us at all in a couple of recent articles.

Scotty Hopson's team lost today, he should commit in 2 weeks.

He did not get POY in his region. What's up with that?

Here is a link to a Louisville paper that quotes Hopson talking about Kentucky, Tennessee and Louisville. However, if you read it, they word it to specifically ask about those schools. He says he "may" be interested in those schools and he has some more visits to make.

Reading that article, I took away one of two things. Either as someone else mentioned, he was upset that they were knocked out and really didn't want to talk about it or he really has no interest or very little interest in any of those schools. If I was a Ky, Tenn. or Miss St. fan I would hope his response was due to his team's loss and was not indicative of how he feels about the schools.

I took it as him saying that not all of those schools are in the mix. If they were all in the running then he would have said that. His answer was short and choppy, so I wouldn't take it to heart. He didn't sound like he wanted to talk too much. I'm sure he wasn't happy about losing and then have reporters completely dismiss the game and talk about his recruitment. Maybe he had the thought that a post-game press conference would involve questions about the game.
