Anyone have any information on this kid. Rivals says he is visiting and is a three star point guard. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about him.

Looks like he is a 5'11" PG from OR who orignially committed to Pepperdine but was released. Scout.com says: A quick and prolific scorer, McCoy is an intriguing prospect. He's not a true one, but if he can play the point he's got a chance to be a very good player at the high major level. Explosive athlete and he can create his own shot.
Should be interesting to see what happens if he truly visits along with Toyloy and possibly Hopson.

How many PG's are we looking for? I thought we had that position covered.

We have two true guards left on the team in Davis and Vaughn, Alvin Mitchell is a SF not a SG. With the addition of Wright, Ward, Dixon, and maybe McCoy, Mick is trying to do a couple things. Establish depth to apply continual pressure and add another pure point guard to compliment Wright. Dixon and Ward are both combo guards, and Ward even plays SF at times.

Our offense suffers tremendously when Vaugh has to play the point.
He is not a point guard! He should never have to play that position.

My understanding is that we have no "true" backup for Cash Wright on the roster at PG. Everyone else we have is SG or combo.

Is someone else leaving besides Mitchell??? What gives with all these guards we're recruiting? Where are all these scholarships coming from? Or maybe the recruiting talk about Hopson and Brumbaugh are just fronts to hide who UC is really after?

Both rival and scout have Chris Turner interested in UC. Rivals has him as a 4 star shooting gurad and scout 3 star shooting guard. He is supposed to be a scorer

That is my understanding, as well. PG is probably the hardest position to learn since you are responsible for handling the ball and getting the team into the offense.
Think back to how many of Huggs teams where he would take a SG and try to move him to PG. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. I suspect it's easier if you take a kid who has played it a lot in HS.

Someone who read that rivals article said it doesn't mention he is visiting UC. Can someone else confirm that?

we need as many guards as we can get to play Mick's up-tempo style that he wants to play... big guys are important, but in college basketball.. good guards can take you pretty far

UNC - Hansborough
UCLA - Kevin Love
Kansas - Front Line has been huge for them down the stretch
Memphis - Dorsey has destroyed teams all tournament long. Dozier is out rebounding entire front lines.
If you don't have good bigs you're not going anywhere.

Good point--both guards and bigs are important. What do we need more at this point? I say big guys.

guards can carry you to the elite 8, but you need legit big men to get to the final 4.

Guards are and have always been more important - you cant do ***** without a point guard
see Charles Williams, Michael Horton, Taron Barker

We have two PGs in the class of 2008. Unless one of them quits, let's pick another PG in the class of 2010.
