I was reading the mailbag that is on Rivals.com and the first question is asking if UC would make the top 25 rankings and it said in Mick's first full year recruiting he will have around 15-20. Now I understand this means nothing but it can not be a bad thing! Make of this what you will but I was really pleased to read that.

Last spring's class was rated Top 5 (HoopScoop) to 15 (most others) range.

HoopScoop is pretty much a joke the way that they do their rankings, and it assumed that Hernol Hall was part of the class. I would sure like to see where ANYONE ELSE last year was even talking Top 25 recruiting class for 2006, I sure didn't see it anywhere and was following pretty closely.

I guess if we can't trust their rankings of individual players then we shouldn't trust their recruiting class rankings right? I rate it 20 that's all that matters. I rate last years class 30. Next year top 10.

There's reason to believe the 07 ranking is legit. What the 06 ranking proves once again is that classes filled with jucos tend to be way over-ranked. Someone posted an article at B Insider last week documenting just how few juco stars have been successful at major programs in recent years. This year we had about half the "successful" ones nationally, due to our having no other players.

Hoopmasters (for one). Bob Gibbons is another.

The "common sense" index for me even WITH Hernol Hall would have still put the class around 30 at best, but that is why we all have different opinions I guess ;)

Hall was considered a UC recruit last summer when the top classes were evaluated so (of course) he was considered then.

Yeah, but you said that the class ranking with Hall ranged from 5 to 15. I am simply saying that even WITH Hall I can't see why someone would rank it any higher than about 30. But that is water under the bridge now, Mick just snagged a consensus Top 25 class and appears well on his way for the 2008 class too.

Not only did it include Hall, but it included Adam H and Williams (correct me if I am wrong). Also, many of those just give points out. So 6 2 star players are better than 2 5 star players on a team that doesn't need more players in some cases.

The UC class in 2006 included Top 5 JuCo (Hall), Top 10 JuCo (Williamson), and Top 25 JuCo (Warren). All were JuCo A-A.
Also Top 50 JuCo (Gentry, Crowell) and Top 100 JuCo (Adam H). All were JuCo All-Region.
Transfer Mike Williams was McDonalds HS A-A and ranked Top 25 in HS.
Deonta Vaughn was a Top 10 ranked prep school player.
Those 8 (combined) were Top 15 rated class last spring.

That is what I thought. You can't see how the recruiting class really turns out until this year due to Adam H and Williams who were 2 of the more important recruits last year.
I was just also saying that some rankings take quanity over quaility. I think we had both last year (I for one way overvalued the impact they would make), but it matters what you consider a good class.

Is Cincinnati going to land the McClain kid from MD? If so, what would there recruiting class be ranked?
— Jason from Portsmouth
Anthony McClain finally chose the Cincinnati Bearcats. As expected, Cincinnati did land Anthony McClain in what was a poorly kept secret for the last few weeks.
With two quality four-star players in Anthony McClain and Jason Henry coach Mick Cronin has brought in quite the initial recruiting class. In addition to McClain and Henry, the Bearcats signed four three-star players - two of whom are ranked in the Rivals150.
After a cursory eyeballing of our team rankings, Cincinnati could land somewhere between No 15 and No. 20 once the dust settles from the spring signing period.
McClain gives UC a shot-blocking presence from Day One, and Henry has the tools to be a big-time playmaker. Rashad Bishop and Alvin Mitchell will give the Bearcats some scoring punch from the wings.
Cronin is also carrying some momentum into the 2008 class, having secured commitments from Yancy Gates and Darnell Wilks, whose stock is on the rise.

On paper the incoming class looks good but I'm not going to have crazy expectations. I've learned it is better to wait and see who actually makes it on the court. Also it is a big jump from high school ball to college and it takes awhile for some to adjust. Last year UConn had a top 5 recruiting class and look how their season went.
