Released from his LOI to South Carolina, he's a 3 star big man with interest in UC. I believe UC has offered him (according to Rivals)

6'8 250

Seems to have more interest in UAB and ECU at the moment.

not going to happen. You don't replace a guard with yet another big man. They need a guard.

A taller player, Wilks/Mitchell small forward type can spell guard play. Height cannot be taught. I think we are set for 08/09. If a 6'10" or taller player became available, then I might be inclined to reconsider, but for now Aldridge gets the scholly, in my opinion.

I too believe we need another guard and not a big man. Wilks and or Mitchell have not shown guard abilty to be. Granted I haven't seen much of Mitchell but I have heard he played the point some in high school. I think we need another legitimate guy in the backcourt. Not another PF/Center type. The only way I see doing that is if somebody else in the low post is redshirted.

Let me correct myself. I meant to say they have not shown the abilty to be guards to me and I had heard Wilks played some point in HS.

If we can land Ben-Eze, Danarius Robinson or Majok I would be eccstatic. Otherwise I would assume to save it/give it to Aldridge.

I would like to see a true PG to backup Cashmere, not a PF or combo guard that played some point in HS.

We already have 5 low post players, and 6 if you count Aldridge as getting time there. It doesn't make sense to add one unless McClain or Belton are redshirted for a season. You know Gates won't be redshirted. We are thin at guard. I agree a true point guard would be best. I'm not sure what is still out there that could compete on the BEast level though.

Guards don't win the Big East... were not in Conference USA anymore.. we need size and inside presence, we will be just fine with 2 or 3 guards and a much bigger forward and center presence. We see where having a lot of guards got the likes of Syracuse, Villanova got a free pass into this tourney, don't know why, providence.. the list goes on. Kansas vs Memphis in the finals... both teams had size, height, we don't need anymore 6 foot nothing guards, we need tall guys with versatility, like Wilks, who hopefully can come around for us this coming year.

And yet with all that size it was Rose and Douglas-Roberts for Memphis, and Chalmers for Kansas that led the way. The Kansas center did have a good game though. You absolutely need size, but it is perimeter play that sets the tone of a game. If you have no perimeter play the opposing D just packs it in. I believe most people's concern is that we have one true point. I know that's mine. We have plenty of low post depth.

Kansas and Memphis are/were centered around guard play. Guards, IMO, are the most crucial to the success of the team.

I'll put it this way, every position is important to success, but regardless of the position, we need size at that position. I dont want another 5 foot 11 guard, or a 6 foot 6 center, we need to be physical and big at each position. Yes we do need good guard play, but having a great inside presence goes a LOOOOONG way to free up chances for the guards.

I agree completely. Also he will not be on Big Monday playing in C-USA, he will get a lot more TV time playing in the Big East. Mick should definitely save the last scholarship for Tyreke Evans.

You just won't let it die will you Ralph:D I think it's hilarious. With as many posts about bringing Evans, I'm concerned if it becomes official with Evans to Memphis, you will defect and become a Tigers fan. ;)

Both Teams also had very good big men. Granted they played more of a role in the final four game then the final but neither team would have been there without their big men.

I vote we just get Devan Downey to transfer back, then we wont have to have anyone back up Wright. We will have to legitmate PGs.

Just kidding... I dont want Downey.

why would you not want Downey? That is absurd.

Off topic but I feel sorry for Downey. Coach gets run out of town, he stays a year, coach gets run out of town again. Transfers. Coach retires after his first year on the floor. I'd be afraid to be his coach at this point.

Downey just rubbed me wrong after seeing him play in that last NIT game under Kennedy. He was basically showing off in my opinion and we could have a made a legitimate run to try to get back in that game at the end but he was too busy throwing up long threes and driving trying to rack up his points.

Yes, he should have been trying to get Connor Barwin and Chadd Moore open looks.

Downey was 1-3 from 3 point range.

Get back in that game? We were up at halftime and lost by 3.

I think you're mis-remembering.
