Can anybody help me with the new ncaa rules regarding graduation rates and scholarships? I believe it is based on a point system. I think you get points deducted for players that do not graduate and are penalized with loss of scholarships. How would Crowell's transfer affect that number? I know he is only one player and don't much have to worry about any others leaving for the NBA but I couldn't help but wonder about the new rules. A school that may lose 3 players to the nba in one year might (OSU) but they never seem to get the punishment that we do.

I think as long as the player leaving is in good academic standing it doesn't hurt the school as much.

Crowell got 2 points each at fall quarter and winter quarter. He gets 1 by being eligible at spring quarter BUT loses 1 by leaving UC.
UC gets 5 of 6 points for Crowell. Little impact on APR.
5 out of 6 (83.3% of points) is below the APR number you need (which equates to a 92.5% more or less). It has a significant impact any way you cut it.
On a team with 13 scholarships it is possible to get 6 points for each player. That is a total of 78 total points. You need at least 73 points in order to stay above the 925 figure (out of 1000).

Little impact from Crowell. Bigger impact from Hall leaving. And others.
UC is already taking the penalty. They don't have to re-take it so long as APR improves. It couldn't get too much worse than 2006 due to all the turmoil.

The Ncaa could not possibly deem a player ineligible for competition and then penalize the school if that same player does not attend school, could it?

Yes. He attended UC but left mid-term.
That shows you the insanity of the NCAA. You deem a player not eligible and then hold the University responsible for him when he leaves.

Don't laugh - but that is because the NCAA supposedly believes that a student attends a college to get an education (classes, etc.) not just to play a sport. I'm not defending their position, just explaining it.
I'm not laughing ;) just think it is insane when an organization can rule that a person has no college eligibility, but then holds the sports program responsible for that individual to graduate. We might as well go ahead and hold the athletic department responsible for the overall graduation rate of the university:rolleyes:

If they rule him inelgible then he isn't a member of the team and shouldn't hurt the team, but what do I know.
