I my opinion a 5 star recruiting class (at least for UC's expectations) has an average player star rating of 4.5 stars or better. That might be 2 five star guys and two four star guys or three 5 star guys. This would be similar to what Matta is doing in Columbus. Let's say a top 5 recruiting class nationally.

A four star class would have an average rating of 4. Let's say a 5 star guy, a 4 star guy and a 3 star guy. Let's say a class rated 5-15.

A 3 star class would have an average ranking of 3.5 stars. Let's say 2 three star guys and 2 four star guys. Let's say a class rated 15-25.

A 2 star class would have an average ranking of 3 stars. Let's just say all three star guys since UC shouldn't be recruiting anything less than 3 stars. Let's say a national rank of 25-50.

A 1 star class would mean to me that we had one scholarship to give and all we could come up with was a 3 star guy. Or an average rating of less than 3 stars per player. Let's say a national rank of below 50.

So I give our 07' class a 3 star rating and I give 08' a 4 star (so far) rating and 09' a four star rating for now. Gates and McElroy could end up a 5 star guy or a 4 star guy.

I gave it four stars based on the recruiting job Mick has done for this year. This just takes into account of how he recruited versus other Division coaches in the Big 6 conferences. If I took into account how little time he had and other things I would then give it a five star rating. What he did this year was amazing. All I can say is Wow. I don't know what more the guy can do, recruiting wise, then what he has done.

The ratings depend on if you are judging the class on just the players that committed or if you take the situation into account. If you take the situation into account then this is a 5 star IMO. Without the situation it is a 4 star and it could be a 3.

I agree with both of you on that. Given the circumstances I would give Mick at least 4 stars if not 5. That doesn't help us with how our class should be ranked in terms of talent in national rankings. Mick has done a 4.5 star job under the circumstances and our class is probably a 3.5 star class.

Under normal circumstances this would be a 3-4 star class. But with the scenarion last season, and the short time to recruit these kids, this is easily a 5 star class. I feel with time he will be consistently bring in Top 10 classes year in and out.

Judging by the team rankings on Scout and Rivals I would say it's going to end up somewhere in the neighborhood of #20 class nationally. We have a lot of recruits but not many top 100's. If you average the rankings from the different sites we have no top 25's, one top 50, one top 100, and a few that could be ranked between 100 and 150.

We have 3 four star guys but only one of those is a high 4. So the average rating of all the guys is probably 3.5. We have a large class so I think that gives us a better chance of ending up with a player or two who was rated too low. The volume therefore gives us better upside. Of course that also means that one or two probably won't pan out. If Mick is worth his weight in recognizing talent (which I think he has proven over the years under Huggins and Pitino and on his own) the class could be a 4 star class even though we don't know it yet.
