Sure! He's going to be on campus passing out a bag of peanuts to everyone who paid $6,000 or better for basketball seats. You know. A nut for a _ _ _

Seriously? Can we try to keep one post on topic and just avoid screwing up another thread?

J'Mison's mom went on record saying that "UCLA now feels right"... citing Kevin Love's departure and consequent increase in minutes available at the 5 spot as reasons.

Don't you guys ever have anything new to say? EVER?
I know we would all like Morgan to come here, it really is not a good fit now. With McClain and Toyloy, I would like to see another 5 spot signed next year and allow him at least 1 good year to grow under both of these guys.

This topic wasn't worth discussing to start with. It's pretty much a done deal Morgan is going to UCLA if he can. Other than to take a free visit Morgan never really considered UC to start with. He just had too many other better options. His mom right now says it's UCLA because of the expouser. She wants her boy to have his best shot at the NBA because I'm sure she is looking at him getting the big bucks more than anything. UC right now just doesn't have a lot to offer a recruit who is looking to help his chances to go to the NBA. He could come to UC and never be heard from again. Not on national TV much, etc.. You could say why wouldn't he go to South Florida for example. Same reasons.

Some people heard U.......C.......(and stopped listening/reading there from the excitement)......L......A. HE'S COMING TO UC!!!!!!!11
I'm happy with who we have going into next year. Happier than I've been in a couple of years about he Cats success in the B-East and an NCAA berth.

Not much logic to the above. UCLA is stuck with the PAC-10 TV contract on Foxsports. UCLA is hardly ever on national TV or ESPN. A lot of their games do not start until 10pm to midnight Eastern time. UC has everyone of its Big East games on ESPN national TV, that is 18, and a few non conference games also. The Big East is the number 1 conference in TV exposure and the number 1 covered by the New York media which last time I looked is a bigger city than LA. Now if he wants to do some of that O J Mayo branding and go to Laker games with Carmelo or Kobe that is another subject altogether.

Considering he's looking at UCLA and that in the first go round Kansas was the runner-up to LSU, I would highly doubt he is coming here.

Sure UCLA going to the final 4 is hardly ever on National TV. For everyone"s information ESPNU, ESPN360, ESPNClassic etc. are not shown in very many households and are not considered national TV. ESPN the main feed and CBS. NBC, Fox etc are considered national feeds and if you aren't on them you aren't on national TV. I think posts are put on here just to get replys from the UC homers that don't know any better.

Time to move on. Morgan will not be a Bearcat next season or any season. UCLA has been in the Final Four at least two years in a row (three maybe?). The regular season is forgotten once the NCAA tournament begins. UCLA will almost definitely play in it next season. UC's chances of playing in it are pretty low. His exposure playing in the NCAA will outweigh the lack of national exposure during the regular season.

from a May 14 ESPN posting:
"ESPN 100 prospect J'Mison Morgan was granted his official release from the letter of intent he signed with Louisiana State on Monday, according to the Los Angeles Times. It appears he is headed to UCLA next season, his mother, Bianca, told the paper, with an official announcement possibly coming on Wednesday. "UCLA now feels right," she said. The opportunity for more playing time with the Bruins arose following center Kevin Love's departure for the NBA draft.
Morgan asked for his release following the coaching change at LSU. New Tigers coach Trent Johnson would not speculate where Morgan would end up, The News Star reports. "I don't know if he's going to UCLA, per se," Johnson said. "He's just been released. It's a difficult time for kids to make decisions."
Sounds like a done deal.

Going to the Final 4 this season is one of the hardly ever times UCLA is on national TV. Fox Pacific is not national, you cannot get it on Channel 43 Time Warner. All ESPN stations are considered national, the Bearcats have 18 Big East games on national TV every year plus others such as XU and Memphis on ESPN2.
NBA, MLB, NFL, Disney, and the companies who pay ESPN millions of dollars for commercial time would be totally shocked to find out that the ESPN channels are not national TV.

Really, if you don't think a topic warrants your attention or comments, then please ignore it and help keep the signal/noise ratio down a bit.

From the Sporting News:
Top 10 College Basketball Teams of All Time
1. 1968 UCLA Bruins (29-1) - Lew Alcindors best team. In the middle of the season, UCLA played with an injured Alcindor and lost to Houston and Elvin Hayes. but then destroyed the Cougars 101-69 in the tournment.
2. 1976 Indiana Hoosiers (32-0)
Over the two seasons that culminated in their 1976 national championship, the Hoosiers went 63-1.
3. 1972 UCLA Bruins (30-0)
The Walton led Bruins won by an average margin of 32 points per game. From 1972-74, Bill Walton led UCLA to an 86-4 record and two national titles.
4. 1996 Kentucky Wildcats (34-2)
This Kentucky Team had 5 first-round picks and one second round. The team included Antoine Walker, Tony Delk, Walter McCarty, Derek Anderson and Ron Mercer.
5. 1974 NC State Wolfpack (30-1)
The Wolfpack's only loss came to UCLA in the regular season but beat them in the tourney. Players included David Thompson, Monty Towe and Tom Burleson.
6. 1957 North Carolina Tar Heels (32-0)
The Tar Heels capped their undefeated season by beating Kansas and Wilt Chamberlain to win the National Championship.
7. 1956 San Francisco Dons (29-0)
Won 55 straight games with players that included Bill Russell, Hal Perry, and K.C. Jones.
8. 1992 Duke Blue Devils (34-2)
The Blue Devils won their second straight NCAA title in 1992. This team was ranked No. 1 the entire season and included Christian Laettner, Bobby Hurley, and Grant Hill.
9. 1982 UNC Tar Heels (32-2)
How did they lose two games with James Worthy. Michael Jordan and Sam Perkins.
10. 1954 Kentucky (25-0)
This team did not win the national title. Kentucky declined the offer to play in the NCAA Tournament. Adolph Rupp was quoted with, "We're not going because I'm not going to take a bunch of turds like you to the NCAA".
I count UCLA in that list twice...
The assertion that the University of Cincinnati men's basketball program has any claim to superiority over the UCLA men's basketball program is......simply silly.....;)

No one was asserting that. The discussion was who had more regular season games on national TV, UCLA with not many or UC with 18 Big East national broadcasts on ESPN channels plus one or 2 others such as Memphis or XU. If you actually took the time to read the posts you might realize this before replying.

The point being that your definition of "national TV exposure" is aimed primarily at the east coast...the west coast is predominantly PAC10/Mountain West coverage within that region.
In addition, national TV exposure (as you define it) is not the primary driver of choice-of-program for new recruits...historical (and consistent) success is far more important...since the topic of the thread is related to landing top recruits, my post has tremendous relevance to the thread..
UCLA is head and shoulders above UC as a program both now and historically...the result is that UCLA will win the head-to-head recruiting war for this (and most other) top-flite recruits between these 2 schools.
GAME OVER!

Come on UCLA has Ben Howland as a coach. Obviously Mick Cronin towers over him. I was introduced to a former UC point guard the other day, who I asked to contrast Mick versus Tony. He said Tony has NCAA champ rings, he was not a good coach but he sure was (I will back this PC) "A lot more commanding in a huddle than Mick will ever be" I was actually hoping he woud say "Give him time and he will win" He did not.

This is opinion, each recruit has different preferences and different things that are of most importance to them. Storied programs are great for those who wish to be part of storied programs, but many guys have loyalties to smaller less "historical" schools for various other reasons. Not all top notch recruits seek traditional schools. Some, believe it or not, chose schools based on distance from home granting opportunities for their families to see them play, playing time as a freshman (in some cases actually want to ease into a lineup, other cases start right away), ties to staff, fellow AAU teammates they have played with or against for years. My point is, that you don't know that being on national tv isn't a primary driver for any particular player.... it's different for each kid. Likewise, you don't know that historical success is any more or less important for one kid to the next, making your statement simple jibber jabber......

You folks have the worst case of Forum ADD that I've ever seen. A Post simply asking if a kid is visiting digresses into a UCLA fact sheet.
This thread is similar to most recent threads on this forum. It starts (usually) with something related to the current UC basketball team, digresses to what happened in the past, brings out those that think there is no hope or want to put down the program(Doss, Billy Don, 611116), followed by those that feel the need to defend the program and MC (myself, SLmadicat, MickdaMan, etc). It's de ja vue all over again. Specifically to this thread, Morgan took all of his visits already thus I doubt he would be visiting anywhere before he makes a decision. Additionally, there is no basis for thinking that he may come to UC based on his AAU coach and his mothers most recent statements. This was started by Ralph1950 just to stir things up and unfortunately, I have also taken the bait.

Exactly right and if folks would stop responding to Billy Don, he would be powerless to derail these threads. Of course, once MC has the program back on track these guys will craw back under their rock or get on board under an alias.
