Here is some of what Mick had to say, I am sure that Lance will podcast it later.
Mick opened with giving a lot of credit to his staff for landing the class that they did....
McClain:
A lot of talent and potential, needs to develop.
Get stronger.
7 foot, 243 lbs.
Adam H and McClain:
these two together are going to make us more comfortable, sikes will have to fight for playing time.
Gentry at 2, Deonta to a true point guard.
Mike Williams is a 4 man, and that is where he is going to play.
Alvin Mitchel:
Guard, tremendous talent, great passer.
draw the defense,
212 lbs. looks like he could play for our football team, star football player before heart condition.
Didn't play a lot of AAU ball, so he was off the radar a bit.
Jason Henry:
6'7" world of talent, can pass the ball, good feel for the game.
Has to get stronger and a little tougher.
Everyone is OK academically, no one is qualified because we are waiting on these guys to pass senior English.
Crowell:
his dream was to play at Cincinnati, we didn't know if he could play at this level. Gave it his all, he is good enough to play and help people win games. Didn't want to see him ride the bench. He will have great success at Div II.
On people who doubt:
We had short term damage control, and now we focus on long term and re-create our image. 5 scholarships in 2008, make a serious run in the league.
NCAA Text Message Rule:
rules change every 2-3 rules. He thinks TXT message is the best for students, no stress, you can pick and choose who you want to talk with...
Derby Pick:
No derby pick yet, street sense is my brother's pick.

What exactly does this mean? Does this mean they have all passed their high scholl courses and we are just waiting on ACT scores of a few? Namely McClain, Henry, and Bishop...is that all?

none of them qualify yet because they haven't finished their high school course work, his main example was senior English. To make it through the clearinghouse you have to have 4 units of English, so no freshmen will get through the NCAA until they graduate.
But his comments made it sound like they will all be playing come fall.
Hope this helps.

If McClain weighs 243 lbs that's alot more than previously stated and would mean he doesn't have as much weight to gain as I thought.
Most of this is a repitition of what was in the paper the other day. He already said Mitchell may start at SG. He hasn't said anything about SF, which I see as another position where freshmen could have an impact, either starting or getting most of the minutes before it's over.

Yes, that helps. I was reading it the wrong way. I guess I should have known they are all still in school. Well I hope he's right. We sure don't need any of the bad news that Huggs was getting so much bad press about. Mick needs a full class of qualifiers or it's going to open up a can of worms that this program doesn't need right now.

Wow, I missed the first part of the interview, he said he would put the audio up on his page (http://www.1530homer.com/pages/lancesBlog.html) when he got the chance, but it isn't there yet. He also mentioned getting a replacement for Adam in next years class and that Williamson, Sikes and Gentry are on schedule to graduate this winter.

I agree 7'0/243 is slightly different from 6'11/220. I would guess if 243 is right he just needs to add muscle rather than weight.

Agreed, not knowing anything else, I would assume from that, that "Biggie" needs to the fat into muscle, (not that 243 lbs on a 7 foot frame would be considered fat.)

The Cronin interview is up on Lance's site now. I found it very interesting and a little more inciteful than just seeing the blogs on his comments.
The way it sounded to me Mick is pretty high on his centers both McClain and Hyranciuk. He said that if Biggie found an offensive game he might not stick around long in college because his defense is ready. He also said that Adam will have to be replaced next year, which was already mentioned here, but that leads me to believe that he will be used extensively this year.
He talked about Williams being a real beast. He mentioned that he is really impressed with how hard Vaughn has been working this spring and how excited he (Vaughn) gets each time we get a new recruit. He also mentioned that Sykes is happy even though his playing time will be going down and will have to fight for playing time.
Mick said he was lucky to get Mitchell because he didn't play a lot of AAU ball (so not as much exposure) but also because Florida landed Cantrell (or somebody with a similar name) that pulled them off Mitchell.
He talked about the master plan with Mike Thomas when he was being interviewed was always to go Juco with the first class so they would turn over in 08' and he then would have had time to reach the high school kids and build relationships. He knew that the jucos were just to be able to field a team but weren't a part of his long term plan. He also said NCAA tournament in 08' is putting the cart before the horse.
He didn't sound as optimistic to me about everyone qualifying even though he said he was. He mentioned in his business you always have to have a contingency plan and that you never know who is qualified until they are qualified. I wonder what that plan is since Timmy already left maybe he has a juco in mind.
Anyhow I thought it was pretty informative although I would still like to know a lot more. Mick even said that he has to wait and see who responds in practice and who doesn't. He loves the kids who are going to really bust their buts (of course) and work hard in the off season and in practice so new kids coming in know how hard they should be working. Again he said Vaughn was doing an awesome job this spring. I think he will get rid of the slackers one way or another.
