View Full Version : OT Crawford to XU

This is not good. Crawford is the real deal. XU with no scholarships now is taking Andrew Taylor's scholarship away. That year to year scholarship deal shouldn't be allowed. If a player decides to transfer and give up his scholarship he usually has to sit out a year. The school meanwhile can take the scholarship away and suffer no penalty. I guess there is no such thing as being loyal to a player anymore. UC is in the same situation and of course will do the same thing if they can sign someone like Crawford. Of course I think it's okay if UC does it, but it's not okay if XU does it.:D

It's a dirty system for all of the kids. Sadly and even worse, there's no fix in sight.

Sean Miller in my opinion is representative of all that is bad with college basketball. He promised Taylor 4 scholarship years at XU just like he promised Johnny Wolf, Charles Bronson etc.
= edit - Ralph I deleted your accusations. I left one since it is against NCAA rules to offer any player a four year scholarship. And the players and AAU coaches know it since it is part of a video and test that all are required to see/take before NCAA sanctioned contests.
If a coach is stupid enough to offer a 4 year ride to a player who has just been told by an NCAA representative that they cant, its the players fault. - Mike

Not a big surprise. Heard it was in the worlks for a while.
What has Miller done to be sleezy? Don't live in Cincy so must not have heard anything.
Is what Miller is doing here any worse than what the football teams in the SEC do every year? They oversign by up to 10 players and then tell some they have to greyshirt or others they no longer have a scholorship. It is the NCAA's falut by not regulating this and making scholorships 4 years. Instead they are 1 year scholorships renewable for 4 years.

Ralph Chill out a bit. We did the same thing to Aaron Mcghee who ended up at oklahoma ,to get Demarr Johnson. Coaching is about winning and keeping your job.

Wow. Ralph, I guess you're not inviting Sean and the guys to your next birthday party, huh?
To be fair, Huggs ran off his share of players at UC that were not up to speed.
This definitely plugs a hole in the XU program now that they lost both Lavender and Burrell.

Tim Crowell

Mike Pilgrim was a disciplinary problem kept in house by BH.
Tim Crowell was told he may be one and done prior to coming to U.C. by Mick
Antwaun Jones I believe transferred on his own
Don't know the others

Miller recruited Crawford and had a good relationship with him prior to this season. Crawford himself stated the first school he contacted was Xavier because of that relationship. Let's not read something into this whole U.C. versus Xavier in recruiting thing. There is nothing there. Everyone except Xavier was playing catch up and he was already a heavy lean to X.

Johnny Carson was a highly touted guard from Springfield, OH who didn't live up to expectations. He transferred out on his own accord.
Antwan Jones was a top 3 JUCO who fizzled and also transferred out on his own accord, never to be heard from again.
None of these listed players left to make room for someone else, except Tim Crowell, but it appears that this was discussed with him prior to his scholarship offer. However, if Scotty Hopson and Bobo Morgan had decided to come to UC in the late signing period, would Alvin Mitchell still be on the team. Probably not. The practice of jettisoning players for better ones is long standing, likely not changing, but still not right.

Ralph must not follow Xavier because everything he stated is false. Give credit where credit is deserved. Xavier deserves credit. Johnny Wolf left on his own decision because he didn't want to play behind an All-American. Charles Bronson transferred on his own so he could get playing time. Miller had nothing to do with CJ being exhonerated of the crime. When the facts came out, an ex-girlfriend of his made false allegations against him. All of the top recruits X is getting go on and on about what an impression the coaching staff made on them. Good job X. Cronin is also doing an excellent job. It's ok to have 2 elite basketball programs in the same city. Just because you cheer for one of them, doesn't mean you have to hate the other.
My prediction for this years shootout: Xavier 79 UC 64.

 You've got be kidding me...sure your screen name shouldn't just be XU fan? Why on earth would you post your prediction, about a game 6 months away, taking X over UC by 15 on UC forum?! Really 15? Are you sure you're on the right forum? Give me a brake, when's the last time a team won that game by more than 10? You sir, IMHO, just made it blatantly clear that you're on the wrong site.

Brilliant prediction. UC is one and one with XU during MC's tunure, and thats with a depleted roster full of JUCO's. Last year they lost by 6 at XU when XU had one of its best teams ever and UC had one of its worst teams in the past 20 years. This years game is at UC. XU lost a lot of senior leaders while UC gets Mike Williams back and recruited some impact freshman. All this would make me conclude that XU will win by 15. Brilliant.

What incoming freshman player would ever attend a college without the presumption of receiving a scholarship for all 4 or sometimes 5 (or maybe 6) years? The fact that they tell you that they are given 1 year at a time is not relative. The joke in this situation is that supposedly the player involved "volunteered" to give up his $35,000 scholarship. Who in their right mind volunteers to give up a $35,000 scholarship? Do you really think this kid has $35,000 sitting around so that he could volunteer to pay his own way? Something is very "fishy" in this whole scenario.

We don't have all the facts, Ralph. Kid's family could be rich. Please remove your keyboard from the pot and discontinue stirring.
I think we are done here.
