Former UC recruit Danny McElroy down to four schools: OU, Kent State, Miami, and BGSU. Glad Mick decided to part ways with him seeing that he's only a MAC-caliber player.

Yeah he's small-time - I could tell that when he verballed - he's under-sized and not very athletic and, well, probably sucks

That's a very nice thing to say about him. I'll bet a dollar he could whup your butt in basketball...

i agree not a very nice thing to say about a high school kid. Hope no future recruits hear you.

Devan Downy is under sized, guess we should be glad we don't have that guy either eh?

McElroy is 6'7 so using him and Devan as an example really doesn't make you look like you even know anything about McElroy..

You are right, I don't know anything about Mcelroy, but what I DO know is that you can't base everything solely on a player's size. Sure it helps to have size, but in the case of Downy, size is irrelevant.

That usually is a more applicable trait for a PG. And yes, Steve Logan was not very nice to say that he sucks. BUT...its true, so I will put it in nicer terms. McElroy is sub-par.

Who based everything off a players size? I can't seem to find that post.

can't compare McElroy to a Downey or Logan or even a Hicks based on their size. All of those guys were Mr. Basketball in their respective states- and thus despite their size limitations, were still the best of the best. McElroy is not in that same league as them.

ANYWAYS, your points are all valid, and so is mine, no need to bash me since you all seem to know "everything." The bottom line is you can't judge a player out of high school based on size, I dont care about Mr. Basketball and other awards. A guy from my high school in Troy, Ohio was mr. football Ohio back in 99 or 2000, he ended up playing for south carolina and lou holtz, he was undersized... didn't get drafted. Mr. whatever in whatever state means absolutely nothing to me because high school talent is few and far between and more times than not, these good athletes are playing against average joes

I'd like to see some post's that said he was small time when he first commited to UC. What I remember was he and Mick were all the rave when he verballed. You'd think fans would learn a little something over time about hyping up a player before he's played one second on UC's team. Lately it's been the same thing. Hype about players who have never played one minute of college basketball. Of course it's nice to read the hype but when you are older and wiser you know it doesn't mean a thing. Like say 7 foot 2 and the board goes nuts even if the player is in a wheel chair. Of course I can understand why the little short fat guys who wear glass's and have never played sports get all excited about some of these players. I only have to read a post or two, to know who to put on the short fat guy list. :)

That's why you, and others with your views, always question the way Mick goes about recruiting. And that's o.k., that is what the board is for. As far as your short fat guy comment that was in extreme poor taste. I for one am 44 and have played sports actively for 39 years, as well as coach. You don't have to play to understand the game or to get excited about a player. We are all right sometimes and wrong in the next second. That includes those of you who choose to give this coaching staff no credit for anything. If one group has bearcat colored glasses, you all have huggs tint and only have a view of the past. This board would be best served by everyone respecting each others opinions and answering back respectfully with a valid point of their own. Personal attacks on here are getting out of hand.

Putting a smiley face on the end of a jab (as you frequently do) does not mean that what you're saying is benign, lighthearted, or fun -- just like spraying Lysol on dog crap doesn't make the smell go away.

Well said. Don, your post was totally uncalled for and not true at all. I had laser surgery so I no longer have glasses!

I'm just gonna come out and say it: what the **** are you talking about? No one praised McElroy. He was a 3 star recruit and people were excited because he was, correct me if I'm wrong, Mick's first verbal from a high school player after his first recruiting class. He was a local kid and people were impressed Mick landed him because the program was in absolute ruins.

No one ever said, "McElroy is a huge pickup." No one ever said that. Some fans were excited though because it was a small step in the right direction for the program. So congrats, you didnt get excited when Mick got McElroy to verbal. **** you probably weren't even excited when Behanan did. Terrell Holloway decided to go to Xavier though. Did you hear that? Theres something for you to cheer about.

Exactly. If Behanon regresses in the next several seasons, many of us will feel the same way.

When McElroy verballed, he was one of the best frosh/sophs on the city. He has since been surpassed by other talent. Is that the fault of those fans who were excited when he was one of the better players? No.

Kinda like signing BJ Grove and seeing him show flashes when he was slimmed down and then seeing him eat his way out of a job. ($h)It happens. Nobody's fault but McElroy's.

I think some people on this board are spraying the lysol in their eyes and as a result are no longer seeing things clearly...

Count me as a person who was excited when Danny gave his verbal. As a freshman he seemed to posses a great deal of potential. Include the condition of the program at the time and I was real excited. I thought he would become a productive player at UC. He never progressed as everyone would have liked and the current situation appears to be better for everyone involved. But I was excited at one time.

I'm not sure if "fault" is the right word. If it is, it would be the 'fault' of the players that surpassed him as much as McElroy.

I do agree with your theory that it could happen to Behanon - and frankly from a rankings standpoint - it probably will. But if CB falls, at worst he will still be a top 50 player in the country.
