I found the 2 part article on money madness very interesting. In part 1 on Sunday Dustin commented that it is being proposed and seems probable that 5/3 Arena be reseated for the 2009 season. World War 3 may break out over this.
Today the annual UCATS contributions are listed. During the Huggins Era from 2001 to 2005 donations were $4 to 4.5 million, except for a noticable blip in 2002 when they were $6.5 million. The article does not state if a special $2million was received that year or not. If not then that was the peak year. During Huggins last year donations to UCATS were $4.4 million. The year after Huggins forced resignation donations increased to $5.3 million, so contrary to popular opinion, as a lot of things are, donations increased after Huggins forced dismissal, they did not decrease.

Who cares, Al?
so contrary to popular opinion, as a lot of things are, donations increased after Huggins forced dismissal, they did not decrease.
I guess I am in the minority that I did not think they dropped.
1. Huggins was kicked out AFTER most of the donations had come in.
2. UC was beginning its first year in the Big East.
3. Zimpher obviously had a very small group of people whom she had ready to kick in some money after Huggins was run off to help pay the $3M buyout.
The real question is where would the money have ended up had he not been run out? Also, how many donors donated the season after Huggins left and how many donated last season? As I've said before, eventually these big $$ donors are going to take a few years off from giving large donations to UC athletics, they are going to need a more diverse grouping of individuals to help keep a baseline of donations, otherwise they could have an athletic budget crunch. There are three ways to do this (or a combination of all of these):
1. Zimpher leaves
2. Cronin wins big
3. Kelly wins big

You also have to realize that UC budgeted for a much higher increase than that because of the it's entrance into the Big East. So even thou $5.3 mil is up, it's up alot less than was anticipated. And as stated my mlb, the Huggins thing came after donations were already in. UC took a hit from the Huggins fiasco no doubt, and UC trying to spin the numbers in their favor isn't going to hide it.

Right 5 MIl is up, but that also includes a major donation by one couple... without that little Buy-in, the average is way down... YES, someone bailed her out in this area.
If they are soooo up why did they have to take money from elsewhere... including endowments?
