Is anybody going to the Fan Jam who has a digital video camcorder?

I think I speak for all out-of-towners on this message board that if somebody were able to video tape the dunk contest and post it, we would all be VERRRRRRRYYYYYYY HAPPY.

Thanks

I am not sure if they will have a slam dunk competition. Last year they did not, it was simply the players doing their own dunking stuff during the lay-up line (warming up for the scrimmage.) So if you are filming make sure you film the lay-up line. Also if you wanted you could send an email to somebody trying to figure out if they are having a dunk competition, they might be.

Hope this helps. CAN'T WAIT!!

Know why they didnt have a dunk contest last year? Because Darnell Wilks can't compete against himself! That's all we had. John Williamson had the most dunks last season but they were all regular two-handers.

This year we'll have Dion and Cashmere to battle him...

but if they DON'T have one, please videotape the lay-up lines.......

THANKS.

They didnt have a dunk contest last year and the lay-up lines were cool but nothing spectacular. I hope they do have a dunk contest this year because that is always fun. Oh and last year Darnell wasn't able to compete remember he got a late start last year. He wasnt dressed for the events last year so a dunk contest would have been kind of embarressing.

My top 5 (+1) dunkers who I think will win.

My +1- Steven Toyloy, dont laugh, I havent seen much of him dunking but from what I understand he has one more than one dunk contest and could be a wild card.

5. Larry Davis- A wildcard here but I dont think people realize how high this dude can get up. He had knee problems in the past but it is safe to say he is healthy and ready to go now.

4. Cashmere Wright- Havent seen much of his dunking ability but from what he says he has around a 40 inch vertical so he has a chance. He is short and people love when short guys get up.

3. Dion Dixon- Dude can put down some nasty dunks. Has won a few dunk competitions. Maybe our most athletic player but I heard that about Alvin and I havent seen it yet, hopefully both of them bring it this year.

2. Darnell Wilks- James White is my favorite dunker of all time and can do things no body else can do, Darnell might be that good. I dont think he has the leaping distance that James did but he could hit his head on the rim. I would consider him the favorite to win the Dunk contest to the majority of people, but not me......

1. Yancy Gates- 6'9 and 250 pounds of beast will be flying through the air. He has incrediable power but where he wins this is on the skill of his dunks. People will be surprised how well he will get up. Darnell will have a lot of expectations that I am not sure he will be able to meet. Yancy will impress people and he will take home the victory.

In the summer league, Cash went over Kenny Frease and almost got the tip dunk down. For someone around 6'0, he'd be my favorite to win it based on his lack of size alone.

I was forwarded your email in regard to a slam dunk contest. A dunk contest is not planned for this event. The players will be dunking on their own during warm-ups.

I would love to see 8,000 to 10,000 students there and loud!! Hopefully some of the students from the football game will find their way to the Shoe. If recruits are coming Mick and Co. need to find a way to get the butts in the seats.

4:00 on a Saturday is a terrible time. Parents have kids with sports activities. I have that exact problem this Saturday.

Had the Fan Jam been at like 7 or 8 pm, I would be able to attend.

That sucks.

Oh yea, duh, parents don't have any responsibilities with kids at 7 or 8 pm on a Saturday night. Why didn't they think of that?

Maybe not yours, but a LOT of kids' activities are done by 3:00 Saturday afternoon. And this is right after, immediately after, the football game. You've got 30,000 plus people in Nippert who are already UC fans and who only have to walk about 30 feet to get to it. My whole family is staying on campus right after the football game for the basketball madness event, and I'd guess that's why they scheduled it when they did. Only people not going to the football game could be upset about this.

I think it's a numbers game, and imho UC played it very well with the timing of this event.

I would probably not go if it was at 7 or 8. I am 20 so I dont have kids but I wouldnt want to make that my Saturday night activity. It is fun but they could do so much more to make this fun for the fans.

oldcat was right. this will only inconvenience a small percentage of fans. Who wants to go to the football game, then leave (traffic, parking);then return at 8:00(traffic,parking). if they sell out the rutgers game, along with the people that just hang out on campus for the game, they only need 1/3 to walk over to the arena to fill that to capacity. I'm just glad were talking about large crowds at UC sporting events again!

I went to the fan jam a few years back that was right after the football game, and it was poorly attended. Worst Midnight Madness/Fan Jam I've ever been to, and I've been to most. I think it is a terrible time, even if they are trying to coordinate with the football game. Just one man's opinion.

Kids sporting activities are usually over by about 5 or 6 on Saturdays, unless you have a freak Saturday night football game. Yes, I have two kids and they play alot of sports.

Sure, the only responsibility you have with kids in the evening is whether or not you want to get a sitter. And if they're old enough, TAKE THEM TO THE FAN JAM. My kids love going down to Fifth Third Arena. But thanks for your insult.

I actually took them to a couple of preseason games last year.

I liked it better when it was at 8 pm. And now they wouldn't have to wait until Midnight to start the scrimmage. It would be more like a real b-ball game.

To each his own.

It wasn't an insult. You state that the time sucks because kids have sporting activities. My point had more to do with the fact that they put thought into the Fan Jam and there are reasons why it is at 4:00. They will lose many, many more visitors by creating a gap between the football game and Fan Jam. Many more than the parents that can't come because their kids have sporting events at 4:00.

As to your previous comment about going a few years back and the attendance being poor: How was the attendance at actual games back then? If they can't even fill up the arena for games, they sure as **** aren't going to fill it up for Fan Jam?

I agree, to each his own, but the Athletic Department can't think like that. It might work out better at 8:00 for me too, but I realize that the best option is at 4:00
