I don't believe that the rivals top 150 is premium info so here are some interesting things - let me know if it is premium and I will promptly remove. I do enjoy these lists because they start conversation and even more this year, because UC is listed on many of the lists.

I personaly and many others feel that UC could use a PG, C and SG or swing player.

- Gates is no longer the top commit in the 2008 class as he has dropped to 84 and Wilkes has risen once again to 42.

- The UC interest PG ranking race is interesting:
Courtney Fortson (64)
Deshan Harris (69)
Jordan Theodore (93)
Dee Boast (110)
Kemba Walker (119)
The only names I have heard lately are Fortson, Boast and Walker

- The UC interest Center ranking race is fun as well.
Woods (18)
Morgan (48)
Bret Thompson (108)
I have only heard about Woods and Morgan lately.

- Willie Warren is now ranked 8th and is the highest ranked recruit with UC interest. Although, he has interest in everyone. Teondrae and Paul Williams are 120 and 127 in the SG race.

- SFs are Tony Mitchell (52), Darius Miller (29), Chris Singleton (54). Wilkes is listed as a SF, but I imgaine that we would take a swing player as well.

- There are PFs listed, but I can't see UC taking another post player other than a C to back up Gates and McClain.

So what's the real scoop on the guards and why is Mick high on Walker? I am assuming he doesn't think he is going to get Fortson. Bost is rated higher and provides some outside scoring potential. Are his grades scaring Mick? Is Walker better than his AAU teamate Theodore?

Why Walker...ball handling, shooting, passing, floor leader?

Not sure... There must be something about Walker that Mick likes better than Bost...

I've never seen Warren list UC in any of his updates. I expect him to end up in Kansas.

I've followed recruiting AVIDLY since 1965. Bob Gibbons is the best and Van Coleman up there, too. Dave Telep/Scout is pretty good.

Rivals/Jerry Meyer simply isn't very good.

Yancy Gates at #84? Yeah, right.

Even the Cincinnati part of Rivals is not agreeing with the list.

I can't see how anyone distinguishes one top guy from another and accurately "ranks" them... IMHO, anyone in the top 200-250 has the opportunity to continue to develop and be a good player in college or at the pro level. Some guys continue to develop, some guys don't. There is a point where skills begin to set themselves apart #200? #250?, but if you're clearly in the top 200 seniors in the county, you're a good ball player witha cance to develop further.

I'm happy when UC signs any player on anyones "ranking" lists. They'll be good players if they fit into the program and system. Yancy is the same player with the same tools today as he was before the "lists" were revised. I am very glad he's a Cat.

Bost and Fortson both need to go the prep route and reclassify to 2008. The reason is because both have serious grade issues and that could be one thing scaring Mick and the other coaches off. Walker is rated slightly lower than Theodore but if you couldn't tell one from the other they play the same style on the court. Why Walker? For one he's one of the best defensive PG's in the 2008 class, he's a winner and Mick is friendly with the Rice coach as he was the point man 7 years ago when they brought in Kenny Satterfield, also from Rice High School.

Perhaps Mick thinks he has the best shot to land Walker and Kemba also has the best grades of the three and at this point if he thinks they are all close he might go with the player with the best chance to be eligible.

Thanks for making sense of that for me. The Rice connection explains a lot.

My pleasure. In the final analysis, I think everyone on this board wants to see the 'Cats succeed in both basketball and football. There might be disagreements from time to time but we're all on the same side.

I suppose you're right since you know more than me.
