The recruiting news listing for Morgan today also had a blurb on "fast rising" Darnell Wilks. Let's hope he doesn't rise right out of his commitment.

I imagine that Mick talks plenty to Mr. Wilkes to keep the relationship strong, and frankly I would be glad he wasn't a Bearcat anyway if he decided to bail on his commitment. As I have been told by many others at times on Bearcat message boards, just take a chill pill :)

There is no reason to think that he would bail. He is an example of Mick being able to evaluate talent well. he was on Wilks early and is going to be rewarded with a top 50 if not 30 player by the time it is said and done.

One thing that we may (hopefully) see soon is the OSU/Duke/UNC effect, whereby a recruit's rankings automatically rise once UC signs him. Coach Cronin has proven his recruiting ability for 2 years in a row, under vastly different (and difficult) circumstances, and it's only a matter of time before the national ranking services start to reflect that.

I have noticed something that others debunk.........but I always see Pitino and Huggins begin chasing after kids Mick is chasing, once they find out who Mick is chasing. It's like they know how good he is at evaluating talent, so they figure he must know what he's doing. I'm sure Mick has more area in recruiting covered than either one of them, even considering how good both of them are. Mick is Da Man.

That's interesting. Like which prospects, for example?

Fellas I gotta say it, it isnt wilkes it is wilks. No E. I dont want to be "that guy" but it bothers me.. just like like when people spell it Yancey and not Yancy. it is yancy, these are now our boys, lets spell their name right

I posted about Wilks not long ago. He's reputed to be a fantastic athlete with skills to boot: a huge upside. To have two kids this size and of this talent level committed in the same class is a tremendous coup for Mick -- unprecedented here in my experience. Truly exciting for UC.

Mick's best trait does seem to be his ability to start recruiting kids before anyone has seen. Look at Josh's list that he posted on cincinnati.com. Wilks is a big example of a player who has climbed a ton. Tony Mitchell and Dee Bost were others.

has anyone seen videos of wilks? rivals has none posted on his profile. i am just interested to see the type of player he is, with all the posts about his athleticism and his stock jumping this spring/summer.

Thanks It7784, I was curious myself to see him play. Looks to be very athletic, can create off the dribble and even hit a "3" in the video. I like that he said when asked what position he plays, he said "anywhere coach wants me to". We got a steal and a very good player. Great job Mick!!

haha, wow. That is a really nice story. Dont we all just love youtube and the ability to see anything. Man this kid can get up, he said over a 40 inch vertical! For a kid who is a legitimate 6'8, WOW. I understand they call it a highlight reel for a reason but it seems he can shoot well, but again they werent going to display him missing the ball. To me he can play any position but the the idea of having him at a 3 or 2 is nasty, a fast, athletic 6'8. Depending on how big we want to go that is what we will have to do. I have seen Yancy play and when he committed I thought we picked up a top elite player and if Darnell can do the same that would be awesome. I have a feeling Darnell will be the Association based on athletic ability. Understanding he needs a lot more time to develop from the limited video I have seen and all the articles I have read he will have the athleticism. Really nice video though, thanks for that.

Thank you for the video. I really enjoyed it. It makes you excited about the future of Bearcat Basketball. Both Yancy and Darnell are reasons for all Bearcat fans to smile.

I think the '08 class will be the one (if they all stay) that brings us a national championship down the road in like '11. They will be that good. Keeping them in college will be the biggest hurdle.
