Our program is on the way up, theres is one the way down. I dont root against UK but I dont like to hear about them, so if this pushes them more into oblivion then good.

UK is hardly on the way down (77% W-L record the past 5 years) but UC is on the way back up.

they went from being a dominate program to being a pretty darn good team. If were being honest they are still ahead right now, but they were falling, that is why the got rid of tubby and we are on the way up.

I don't see Kentucky going away anytime soon, but their fans are still the most arrogant morons on the face of the planet bar none :)

While I wholeheartedly agree with you on UK fans, may I also offer up O$U fans as well. I dont see a difference between the 2 at all.

1. Duke 302-53 and 28-9 in NCAA

3. Connecticut 264-78 and 25-6 NCAA
4. Kentucky 263-83 and 23-9 NCAA

bearcatfan i agree with you they were awesome and they are not being able to hold on to that top 5 program title. Not saying we are taking it over but you can tell me how great they were but if your telling me the past 6 or 7 years they have been where they want to be then I believe your wrong. Tubby was ran out of town and we all know that. He can say he left but they were calling for his head for awhile. They were great, now they are pretty good and if gillipse cant stop this they are on their way to being above average. I dont root against kentucky but again i would like them to become less relivant and tubby was doing a great job at doing that, hopefully gillipse can finish what tubby started.

I know Tubby personally. He left by his own choice. No one ran him anywhere.
UK was GREAT in the 40's and 50's but Top 5 since then.

I don't care what Tubby may have said about the matter, the undisputed facts are:
1. There was widespread dissatisfaction at the team's progress, and he was feeling the pressure.
2. He left for a far lesser program.
The situation speaks for itself.

So you know more than Tubby about why he left. Hmmm.
He felt no pressure. He won 76% of his UK games and 72% of his NCAA games there, both at or above historical UK norms.
He left for a greater challenge in a city that dwarfs Lexington.

No pressure? Are you serious? I'm brand new to this board, but not brand new to the college game..... That statement alone nullifies your comment about knowing him personally..... besides that, who cares? Last time I checked this was a UC board where it should be cool to bash our neighbor programs while uplifting our own....

Yes. No pressure. He ignored the tooth-deficient, Double Digit IQ fans and just coached the team.

I think it's obvious that there was a lot of pressure on Tubby, whether he felt it--I don't know... He'd have to be pretty resilient not to. Not many coaches go from a powerhouse program to a bottom feeder simply "for a new challenge".

I think one of the complaints UK fans had about Smith was that he never acted like he felt the kind of pressure they wanted him to. I don't find it that hard to believe that he actually did ignore the UK fans and just coached the team. Either way, if he doesn't take the Minnesota job there is still a good chance he isn't the UK coach anymore anyway, so him leaving on his own terms was probably a good decision.

Smith may be thick skinned, but he wasn't blind to the fact that support for him had badly eroded. The talent level at UK had slipped in recent years, and so had their position in the SEC. Obviously alot of cities have more to offer than Lexington, lol, which has nothing to do with what makes the UK job one of the top three in the country, with expectations to match. (ps - I'm not a UK fan - just a realist)

Yes, I'm sure places like Chapel Hill (just one example of many) have SO much more to offer.

Now that clown Tubby is out it looks like Kentucky might have a fighting chance in the SEC, they landed Patrick Patterson. They ran Tubby out of town, if Tubby or you, bearcat fan, want to admit it thats fine, if not it is still true.
BOTTOM LINE: Tubby left Kentucky in worse conditions then he recieved it, that is not debatable. Looks like Billy is going to have to turn it around, he will, he is a quailty coach. In a couple years it will be like 1996 again, UC and UK on top in the Nation. Hopefully.

UK had the 4th best record in the nation the past 10 years. UC had the 8th best record in the nation the past 10 years.
Tubby Smith is hardly a clown. Perhaps you are looking in a mirror?

Patterson was a UK lean since last fall. A friend of mine in Charleston WV knows his parents. Been UK all the way since Midnight Madness in Oct 2006.

Perhaps Patterson chose to go to Kentucky after he realized the huge NCAA violation that would have happened with Donovan at Florida. On 700WLW this morning, there was a soundbyte of an interview with Patterson and he mentioned that he was grateful to Donovan because he (Donovan) was going to move Patterson's family to Jacksonville to help them out. Of course, those comments came out of a kid's mouth, but it sure is interesting that this kid chose to make comments like those in an interview. Makes you wonder what other benefits he would have taken, or Donovan would have given.
Those comments should be taken with a light grain of salt. 18 year olds sometimes talk about things they don't know about. Then again, he could be right, but right now, I'll take it with the salt.

WOW if he did say those things....NCAA would not like that one bit!!!

Indeed, take it with a grain of salt, but the specific details caught my ear. He mentioned that Donovan was going to help his family out by getting them a house, and then he said in Jacksonville. Knowing that UF is in Gainesville, I found it peculiar that this recruit named a specific place for this gesture to "help his family". That, and he specifically mentioned Donovan's name.
