Hopefully it is not a problem linking to another Bearcat site this morning but I thought the person who wrote the most recent article did a nice write up of recruiting. The site is no where close to the league of Bearcatnews so I thought it would be okay.

Good article. Fortson has 4 other schools on his final list.

That's a nice new page you found.
I'm not sure I agree with his projecting a top 5 recruiting class unless he really knows something we don't and it didn't sound like he did. If you look at sites like Rivals you generally have to have multiple 5 star recruits to be a top 5 class. You generally have to have at least one 5 star guy if you want a ranking in the top 10. I don't necessarily agree with this ranking style but that doesn't matter. I also don't have to agree with the star rankings either but again that doesn't matter.
If I am not mistaken a 5 star recruit is around a top 25 ranking. A 4 star recruit is between 25-100 and 3 star recruit is 100-200 on average. Right now we have two 4 star guys (which could change and has). We are "in good" with a couple more 4 star guys. We are making a strong push at a couple 5 star kids.
If our class looks like this I would rank it top 20: Gates, Wilks, Bost, Mitchell, juco.
If our class looks like this I would rank it top 10: Gates, Wilks, Walker, Mitchell, Woods.
If our class looks like this I would rank it top 3: Gates, Wilks, Walker, Warren, Woods.

I agree with the class ranking assessments. I would also consider Gates, Wilks, Walker, Warren, Morgan a top ten class.

Absolutely top 10 material there! That would be one lock 5 star in Warren and potential for more depending on senior year play. Wilks and Morgan are on the rise and Gates could return to impress the scouts like he once did. If we can get Woods or Warren there is no telling how good this class can be. I am starting to think Woods is not such a long shot any more based on his own comments.

Yes, I guess writing for a paysite and then publicly divulging the info would be a slight conflict of interests.

I'm not sure how anyone can rank the classes until we know what all the other schools do. I like speculating, but, it's really impossible to say top 10 without knowing.

I like this part - posted on May 15th:
It appears as if this coming weekend could be a huge one for Mick and his staff as it’s rumored there will be as many as six, yes six, potential Bearcats in town to visit the campus. No word yet on who exactly will be taking a tour, but if this is true, the staff is going to be very busy this weekend.
I wonder: if all their scholarships are filled for the 2007 class, and they only have three left for 2008, are they bringing in players together to see if the competetive juices are flowing, forcing a few to commit on the spot, or are they bringing in potential 2009 recruits? Can they even do that legally yet? Or, are they having some of the 2007 class come in this weekend to help with recruiting?
My guess is they are bringing in one or two 2007 recruits and the rest are 2008 potentials. They’ll keep them all apart as best they can and see who will commit first. Don’t be surprised at all if UC gets another player or two to commit shortly after their visit.
If I find out who’s in town, I’ll pass it along. Keep your fingers crossed. This could be big!

You are right it is impossible to rank exactly but it's not hard to generalize or approximate based on previous years. That is why I say things like top 10 rather than #8 or top 20 rather than #17. What's the use of speculating if you're not going to speculate:)

I'm here in St. Louis, so, I appreciate this site to keep up with Bearcat News. I guess I just try to temper my enthusiasm, having been let down too many times in the past.

I'm with you there. The reason I posted in the first place was because the author of the artilce was projecting a possible top 5 class so I was wondering how he came to that conclusion. Unless he knows something we don't he is putting the cart way before the horse and I tried to convey that in my post about recruiting class rankings. I also gave some scenarios on what those recruiting class rankings might look like but I wasn't projecting where we would end up. Trying to stay optimistically realistic;)

FYI... the author of that site and article is now working directly for a paysite. The info he posted on his blog should be accurate, but his blog was "leaking" the paysite info ;). I believe that's why he was asked to pick one or the other...

What do you think about possibly 6 b-ball recruits coming in this weekend?

That's the rumor... I haven't heard any names though...
I know that Wilks, Gates and Dennis Harris have been on campus already for sure, so it should be 6 recruits other than those 3 names...
Walker and Bost have both been rumored to visit sometime in May so they could possibly be 2 of them... If that's the case, I imagine mick would want a feeling from walker so he can lock one of the two down sooner than later... Just my guess on that one.
Could possibly be some 09' contigency plan recruits and some 2010 guys Mick wants to get in early with mixed into the group as well.
If Mick has 6 08' recruits on campus together at once, that would create a little pressure and competition for the final 3 scholarships wouldn't it? :) .

If that is correct I would expect at least a little good news to come soon. I would have also expected to hear that rumor prior to today but stranger things have happened. With all of the guys and their sources on this site I would be surpised if they could keep that a secret.

Actual visits generally aren't made very public.... Actually, most people I know don't know they happened until after the fact... Sometimes, recruits may say that they're visiting a school in this month or that month, but you won't get that info from peopel in the program before the fact very often... At least the peopel I know don't get that kind of info before the fact very often ;).

All I can say is it is good to see fans talking positively about the Bearcat Basketball program again. I know Mick will have a great 2008 recruiting class.

Too bad you weren't around in 2006 (last year). The UC team and players got wonderful reviews for their solid performances under Andy Kennedy.

Thanks 98. I just figured that this author stated his sources in his article(s) and they are the same sources people on this board are familiar with. The main sources being this website and BearcatLair. If he knows something I would think others on this board would to. We heard rumblings of a couple visits in may so maybe this guy got some stuff "hot off the press" when he said up to 6 visits this weekend.
I was just a little skeptical of the lofty numbers in his article(s) like top 5 recruiting class and 6 recruit visits this weekend. I hope he is right though.
