Can someone give me a rundown on offers that UC has given for the 08' class.
Here is what I could come up with from the recruiting section of this site:
Morgan
Mitchell
Brown
Theodore
Jones
Walker
Williams
Can someone tell me why Mitchell has not accepted an offer if he has UC #1 on his list? Also, I'm sure there is a very good explanation that escapes me right now, but why not put the offer out to kids like Warren and Woods and Gibson etc.? Obviously you are not going to land the recruit without doing the work but why is it that coaches don't throw offers around to all of the top recruits just to see if they get a bite? I know it's not that easy but what am I missing here?

If I'm not mistaken only the player can say if he has received an offer or not. If there's not interest in the school then they probably won't say if he's been offered or not. Warren and Woods probably get so many letters and offers they don't know who has offered.
Scout has Kemba Walker and Teondra Williams offered.

Mick can put verbal offers out to anyone and everyone he wants to show interest in a kid or get a guage of a kids interst in the program... On the Mitchell question, Mick has made him a verbal offer like everyone else, Mitchell has made it clear UC is his #1 choice and (IMHO) has most likely verbally informed Mick he would accept the offer if Mick will commit one of the 3 open scholarships to him. (IMHO) Mick has not accepted mitchells verbal commitment to date because he is not perpard to reserve one of the 3 scholarships for Mitchell until a few other guys are off the board.
There is obviously much more invloved than the statement above , but verbal scholarship offers are as binding as verbal commitments. Nothing is official about a verbal offer or a verbal commitment until BOTH PARTIES commit to each other. Nothign is BINDING until the paperwork is sent and signed by both parties either :).
Quick example... Kenny Belton was verbally committed to Maryland... Gary Williams got in late with someone he wanted more and rescinded Belton's scholarship offer (which is how Belton eventually ended up at UC after being verbally comitted to Maryland). Mick is taking the other rout and not accepting verbals from ANYONE until UC is ready to commit to certain players (IMHO).

If I'm a big time player and am offered by a program I've never spoken to or had a campus visit with, I would know they arent interested in >me< they are just interested in throwing offers to the top players in the country and my name is on some list.

I just don't see the logic in extending an offer if you are not ready to commit to a player. There are plenty of ways to show you are interested in a player without offering a scholarship. There are also plenty of ways to find out if a kid is interested in playing for you without offering a scholarship.
I thought Mick was holding back on his offer to Bost because he had more interest in other guards. Why would he offer Mitchell if he wanted to wait for other players to go off the board?
Maybe some players get an unconditional offer that says "if you accept we will write up the papers tomorrow". Some kids get a conditional offer that says "I have offered 5 players with a deadline to accept by June 1st. I will decide between all accepted offers at that time".

Mike, I know that landing a big time player without ever talking to them is not going to happen. I was just wondering why we see "offered per player" by some of the kids names on the recruiting page but not Warren and Woods. I guess I can assume we have offered but the kids aren't talking or that we just haven't updated the website because it is info that has been reported by a paysite and we don't want to step on any toes.

If I'm a kid and I want to go to a certain school, they've shown interest, and extended a conditional offer based on what higher rated players do.........I look elsewhere. I wouldn't want to be second fiddle.
I'd be insulted if I were Bost.

Do you think that's how all the kids who get wait listed at Harvard or Georgetown or whatever their favorite school is feel? Or people that are called back 4 and 5 times for interviews with their dream job?
What if he just really likes UC and wants to play there above all other schools he has a chance to play for?

The difference is in the offer. If I want to go to Harvard and they offer...I accept. If I get offered a position by my dream job I accept. We realize there is a process to go through sometimes to get the offer but once you have it generally it doesn't get rescinded.
If I am Mitchell and I have been offered and I accepted (whether it is verbally or otherwise) I think I might feel a little used if I am then told to wait and see if we get a better player than you. Now if I was told in the beginning I would have to wait until a specific date or until all outstanding offers came back I might not feel so bad.
If I were Bost and had not been offered yet I would know exactly where I stood and I might choose to go elsewhere or wait it out if the coach was giving me a good vibe.

Its possible that Cronin has offered both these players, but it isn't public, or I simply havent seen it yet.

Okay that makes sense. Thanks everyone for helping me try to understand the offer process. It just wasn't making sense to me how we could have offers out to guy(s) who had UC as the #1 choice but no commit. I think I have a better handle on it now although it still isn't crystal clear.
If anyone is aware of more offers than the ones listed in the original message please let me know so I can update the list. Thanks

Correct me if I am wrong here, but coaches can not comment on players until they sign a LOI. Where you hear "verbal" is typically news or recruiting sites who have spoken to the kid, his parents, etc. and have been told that information. That is also where a silent verbal comes in. The coach has been told by the kid that he is going there, but no one will confirm outside of the program.

I think Mike keeps a pretty good list. :)

That is how I understand it now Shaun. I wasn't sure if offers were public info on the paysites or member info. If it was public, like certain other info, I thought some people in this forum might know of other offers besides the offers listed in the recruiting section of Bearcatnews.
