View Full Version : Football Practice Fields - New Basketball Arena Location?

Does anybody know how the new football practice field will impact any FAR OUT plans for a new basketball arena? I seem to remember the plan was to build a new arena over by Daniels. With the FB fields there, I presume an in-place replacement of 5/3 Arena would be in order.

After looking over the old renderings from a while back, it would appear that a new arena would butt up right against 5/3 and require demolition of the old Sanders cafe + Dabney dormitory.

Thoughts, insight?

UC has to start winning BIG again before any discussion of a new arena.

That costs $$$ to do.

We no longer fill up The Shoe since Nasty Zimpher's ego necessitated firing THE HUGGS. I expect todays crowd to be about the same as the prior games. HALF EMPTY.

Perhaps to get prime FB tickets they will force you to buy BB tickets. The universe has turned 180 degrees.

Was the Shoe always full when we played no name teams early in the year even during the Huggins era? I don't know for sure, I would have to guess not but if I'm wrong please correct me.

The early no-name games have rarely sold out. However, they were more around 9k-10k and not 3k-5k. Recently, we can not even sell out against top teams such as Memphis, UL, Nova, etc. These past two years have been terrible in attendance but as BK says, you need to put a good product out there for people to attend.

This year may be the turning point. Fans are aching for the Bball team to rise back to prominence. They are also starting to forget about Darth Z. I hope that we can sell out more than just the X game and that we average over 10k this year.

What a ridiculous statement. The Shoe was started during the Yates (maybe even Badger) era. If you're going to lace every comment with the past, at least do it accurately.

Zimpher's ego was helped along greatly by Huggs lack of good judgment.

but there was 8,500 - 10,000

How many were there today? My guess is 5,000. No one was in top rows. Upper chair seats fans were 50-50 at best. Few students. 50-50 in primo seats.

UC used to announce attendance. They no longer seem to do that. Why?
They would be red faced. Wait that would be OK today but at football.

If you have $150,000,000 laying around and want to donate it then a new arena will be built.
