I can't wait to see Biggie get some minutes against the big guy. It'll be interesting to see how he does.

Anyone know if there will be an online link for the game? Maybe channelsurfing.net?

Kindog202

Don't see it listed on channelsurfing and from other people posting appears only way to see the game is to have a ticket. Will need 700 tonight.

If you're out of WLW's broadcast range, you have two other options:

1. www.700wlw.com has live streaming.

2. XM Radio, channel 173 is WLW.

Florida State fans are not too confident that they can win, I hope they are right. We can go 2-0 but I am OK with 1-1

win or lose, i just want continued improvement from each player, hard core defense, good offensive movement, make free throws, great effort & hustle and play together as a team! i want 2-0 , i will accept 0-2 if we get beat by a better team that just out played us in a great game. they just have to keep improving going into the big east.

im just saying we are not going undefeated....i want wins too, but win while playing like crap and not learning or improving will lead to some big disappointments later on.

Florida State LOVES turning the ball over.

They average over 16 a game and have only two players with a better than 1-to-1 assist to turnover ratio and are 61/81 as a team. Considering the competition they have played, thats quite bad.

18 vs Jacksonville
18 vs LaSalle
17 vs Stetson

They also average over 20 fouls a game...

So the Cats need to keep pressuring the ball as they have, for the most part, this season.

Making free throws will also be key. They have to improve upon their 59% shooting at the line.

The rumors are false.

They will get better. Not having a true point will always hurt them but they'll figure it out eventually.

the_one_32
11-28-2008, 11:12 PM
we need another PG for next year as well... Cashmere needs a true backup... If Mick was smart we would tell Kenny Belton to transfer and go after a PG in the 2009 class

SLMadiCat
11-28-2008, 11:25 PM
Mike Williams started off with 6 quick points and was never heard from again. The guards have to do a better job of getting into the lane and not settling for outside shots.

Bearcat Jeff
11-28-2008, 11:25 PM
This is the reason I wanted Ward instead of Dixon

bearcat1518
11-28-2008, 11:37 PM
It's killing me why we keep signing sub-par 3's. Someone needs to be able to create besides Vaughn and someone needs to be able to get it to Yancy and Mike. Hopefully Kilpatrick is better than Davis, Mitchell, Wilks, Bishop and Dixon because somone needs to step up on the wing...and we have so many at this position already.

11-28-2008, 11:38 PM

SLMadiCat
11-28-2008, 11:50 PM
How can Mitchell barely hit the rim on FT's? Sit his arse on the bench until he figures it out. He's also a guard who can't dribble or pass. It's bad enough when your PG is out, you can't afford to have a SG who can't handle the ball.

bearcattg
11-28-2008, 11:53 PM
Turnovers, terrible shooting, no offensive rebounding, no defensive rebounding. If FSU didn't stink they would be down 25. Trust me when I say that FSU will not be good this season, yet they are smacking the Cats.

SLMadiCat
11-28-2008, 11:54 PM
Unbelievable. Can't pass, can't rebound. Doesn't sound like there is effort.

ucmba2002
11-28-2008, 11:58 PM
agreed bearcattg...no way we should be down double digits to this FSU team. Doesn't sound like Mick has the team fired up. Why are we playing in this dumb tournament anyway?

bearcat1518
11-28-2008, 11:58 PM

1-5 Shooting. 0-3 Free Throws. And this is supposed to be our shooting guard/Small forward scorer??? Pathetic.

Bearcat Jeff

FSU has 12 offensive rebounds and are ourebounding the cats by 10

SLMadiCat
11-29-2008, 12:03 AM
The effort was there early on but they called called for too many fouls and it completely slowed the game down and took M. Williams out of the game.

Need some guards that can do more than be a spot up shooter. LD has done decent tonight, but Mitchell and Bishop need to come off the bench. They just aren't good enough.

bearcat1518
11-29-2008, 12:03 AM

Agreed, with a young team you will have nights like this. It'll get better.

I'm tired of this excuse. They quite frankly just aren't good enough. They aren't fast, can't shoot very well, can't make free throws, can't handle the ball, can't slash, don't play very good D, can't stroke 3's...at least do 1 thing good or all decent...

Damon Flint, Darnell Burton, Steve Logan, Kenny Satterfield, Kenyon Martin, Dontonio Wingfield, Danny Fortson, Lenny Stokes, etc. all contributed big time in their freshmen or sophmore years.

Ruben Patterson, Pete Mikeal, I-Mac, Jamaal Davis, D'Juan Baker, James White, Eric Hicks, Corie Blount, etc. etc. all contributed big time in their first year in Div. 1 basketball.

11-29-2008, 12:21 AM
I can't take another season of this garbage. This is disgusting. Absolutely abysmal. I literally have seen better offensive production from grade school basketball team. I don't care if they are young, I don't care if they are on the road. Airballs and near airballs on nearly every shot is just not acceptable.

bearcat1518
11-29-2008, 12:25 AM
Garbage? These kids are young and this is the first big game of the year away from home...

Wilks, Mitchell, Davis and Bishop combined (with 3 minutes to go):

82 Minutes, 13 Points, 0-9 3FG, 6-20 shooting (30%), 9 REB (Mitchell with 5), only 2 ***, 8 TOs.

That's not something you chalk up to being young (against an average FSU team). That pretty much just means these guys aren't good.

bearcattg
11-29-2008, 12:30 AM
If this is a sign for things to come UC will lose every Big East game by an average of about 18 points. FSU is not good, folks.

58 - 47? Wow! that's just flat out disgusting! I thought they had a much better offense than that. It's early and I hope this is just a growing pain, but I seriously can't take another year of sloppy under achieving play. 19% from 3 point land and 47% from the free throw line. Looks like they completely lost confidence tonight.

Wow this team is frekn horrendous, could there possibly be a worse ball handling point guard in division 1 basketball than Deonta Vaughn?Yancy Gates is probably the most overrated freshman we have recruited in the past 15 years the guy has no heart and looks flat out lazy.Mitchell can't shoot his way out of a paper bag and looks way overmatched by anyone with any division 2 athletic ability on the court. What bothered me the most was how comfortable cronin seemed to be with this loss, which is sign of a really poor coach, give me a coach who cares please, can we get Brian kelly to coach the basketball team too?

FSU isn't all that tough and I had that game down as a close but good UC OOC win. UC stunk up the place in that game in everything from ball handling to taking bad shots. Going to make it hard to get 10 or 11 wins out of the OOC schedule now. I think Mick needs to keep more of the same guys on the floor longer to let them get into the flow of the game. He ought to know by now who can play and who can't.

Sure I make brilliant comments because I know college basketball! Here's another for you. This ought to be a wakeup call for some uneducated UC fans. UC has many areas to improve on if they are going to beat a decent team. Even Vaughn is going to struggle because his mental game right now is a wreck trying to help too many players and trying to do too much. UC will improve on some things but ball handling figures to kill them in the Big East if they don't improve on that. Maybe last night was the worse game UC will play all year and it better be or this year could be a worse year than I thought.

We sucked. The scouting report said they draw a lot of fouls. They did and made enough FT to win.
Why did McClain only play 5 mins.?
The team sucked, but Vaughn really sucked. He took 1/3 of the shots and shot 27%. Throw in the 6 t/o and he showed why he's no Steve Logan.

I have to defend Vaughn here a little bit. Sure he played terrible but he doesn't have a lot of help and he has to handle the ball too much. Put Warren out there and Vaughn's game would improve. Right now Vaughn's mental game is bad. Mick needs to run plays for Vaughn like he did last year and let him settle into the game a little bit. UC should ROMP over UNLV. They are not very good.In your dreams. Are you trying to play with people's expectations? Tell everyone it should be an easy game, and then if they lose you can start broadcasting what a lousy coach Mick is.

This is still a rebuilding team. There are no easy wins on the remaining schedule!

He was recruited as PG. He has the height of PG. The reason many Div I schools didn't recruit him (that hard) is that he may be SG in PG body.Body types do not dictate positions at guard, skills do.

here is a fact, UC had some bad loses early last year when Vaughn had to play point, we got allot better when he played the 2. Davis or dixon is going to have to learn how to play the point as vaughn us much better playing the 2, coming off screens. He is not Logan, never will be.

No one hates Cronin. Plenty of Huggins Haters around here. And what's wrong with that? In case you've forgotten, he coaches a conference opponent (and he's kind of a jerk).

You are not educated nor a UC fan. Those of us who have a vested interest in the University, i.e. alumni, know that being a fan is not just rooting for the team when they are winning and then bashing them when they lose. We don't have such shallow lives that we wrap ourselves around a winning team because it makes us feel like we are winners. And spare us all about how long you have been following UC. It's as old as you are and as old as your need to tell us how wealthy you are. Spend some of that wealth buying people who think you are an interesting person, rather than seeking attention on this board.

What a stupid comment. No reason to hate the guy who rescued UC basketball from the dead.

Absolutely. Huggins is going to get 20+ W in that same (BEast) conference. He did last year. No excuses why Cronin won't. Because he will.

Body types do not dictate positions at guard, skills do.

He is 6-0 or 6-1 guard. That's PG, not SG. He's not Allen Iverson. He needs to play PG.

This team will be lucky to get 12 wins, I don't think there is a single team we can match up with in the Big East.Quite frankly UC basketball in its current condition could barely compete in Conference USA let alone the Big East. This team isn't even good enought to make it into the NIT, thats our goal for the next 5 years.

If Vaughn is 6-0 to 6-1, then I'm 7'10.

But you're right, he needs to play point and figure it out by Big East play.

Solid, very solid. So why did we not keep going to him???

Oh yeah, Alvin Mitchell was on fire....

UC has one of their worst shooting nights in the last 3 seasons and suddenly fans are going off the deep end.

I saw alot of positives in the game that they can build on, and alot of mistakes they can learn from.

This team is so young that everyone returns next year. Go figure.

From what I heard they did shoot awful, but a lot of the reason for bad shooting is bad shots. Forced, not in the flow of the offense, etc. They had a tendency to do that last year and I'm guessing they did it against FSU. Inexperienced teams start jacking up 3's when they get behind.

ps - did All Access broadcast this game? Or is everyone basing opinions on radio? Just curious.

Vaughn hasn't learned to play point in 2+ years of trying. What's going to change now? '58 telling him he has to because he's 6'0". Dream on.

We're a little negative because the team is simply not good. Period. I don't know what game you were watching, but there definitely were not a lot of positives in that game at all. Their fundamentals are flat out awful!

I don't think we're upset because we lost...it's because the fundamentals are awful and after a year of solid playing time (for most of these guys)...they haven't showed much improvement. Obviously Vaughn is good and Williams is solid (and Biggie has looked better) but Davis, Mitchell, Wilks and Bishop are simply not good enough.
