I like Mike Williams, he does a lot of things well but nothing great. He needs to produce much more than he is, in my opinion. 4 points is unacceptable but in fairness he hit the 2 he needed to.

What do you guys think? I really thought he would be as much or more than John Williamson and I am not sure he does. He should be knocking off the rust here soon.

Well lets see you actually have other options this year to step up and produce. Williamson had to be a 14/10 guy for the team last year to have a chance. Mike can be that but does not need to every night when Yancy is going off. I think we have enough options where it is just going to be feed the hot hand and tonight was Yancy Gates.

I didn't expect him to give us much - I thought he'd be comparable to Jamaal Davis at best. That being said, for this team to be successful, he needed to be a 15 point 10 rebound a game type of player. He needed to be that consistent second double-digit scoring option to go with Vaughn.

Joe you are locked into the fact that the same guys have to score in double digits, Fact is that it doesn't matter as long as 3 guys each night give you that. It does not have to be ABC. I would rather have a go to guy, and a complilation of scoring options. As long as the Cats have three guys eah night step up it will not matter who.

Secondly, Williams is coming off a major injury. He should be rounding out in about January.

I didn't go to Vegas and didn't see the last two games, but I've been at every home game; Mike is being affected by the horrible guard play. He plays hard, but he seems to like the high post...whe he flashes, the ball is rarely there.

This is really his first chance to play a big role in Div I basketball. Injuries, redshirt, transfer have all limited his chances.

He will be a solid player for UC on the way back to 20 W again. Finally!

You have to take in consideration....
-He was in fould trouble all night against FSU.
-He IS NOT Danny Fortson or Kenyon Martin. Think more along the lines of Jamaal Davis or even Jermaine Tate...just smarter. He's going to give you 8/8 nights a lot and do things that dont show in the stats.
-He hasnt played in TWO years. You cant just roll out of bed and play major Division I basketball.
-He plays on a guard oriented team. The interior players are looked at as a collective rather than individual effort.

Oh...

Its also game SIX of the season. Only about 30 more to go.

Mike has been out of basketball for a couple of years. I'm sure it would be hard on anybody and it'll take a few more games/months for him to adjust. No worries, he'll come around!

At least we have someone on this team that can shoot free throws. He needs to stay out of foul trouble though.

The one thing i would love to see from mike would be to take on a more vocal leadership role. Deonta is more of a silent leader.

He can be all the leader he wants but I still need him to score at least 10 a game.

Why does he need to exactly?

Our go to guy is Vaughn... Is, and always will be while he wears a Bearcas jersey. If he is not the only one scoring we will win our fair share this year.. If he is the only one then we lose... sort of like FSU loss.

exactly - granted he was a mcdonald's all american, but at texas he wasn't putting up big time numbers. i certainly wasn't expecting 15 and 8 a night. look for a solid player that will play his role on the team.
