From what I have heard Belton is pretty thick and likes to bang down low. Classic low post player...put backs, rebounds and layups. Maybe a slightly less talented version of Danny Fortson. He is listed as PF but I would just simply call him a post player. I haven't seen any tape but this from what I have read and heard...

At 6'-8" with a thick body and no prolific verticle jump, Belton will be about as quality a back-up center as Marcus Sikes (about the same size)... Belton will probably rebound more, but won't be much help against Big East centers, until he gets a few years of experience under his belt at least. He needs to be in the PF spot with a legitimate center playing behind him... Which is why Mick will have to sign a center with one of the remaining scholarships available on 08'.

I believe that Belton is a nicely chiseled tough guy, definitely NOT a fat guy :) However, I don't believe that his skill level is anywhere near a Danny Fortson. Belton could be very useful taking minutes and bashing on the opposition down low I would think until if and when he develops more offensive skills.

Slightly? Fortson enjoyed a pretty nice NBA career. If he's only slightly less talented, he'd have to be pretty darned good.

I said slightly to try to keep it positive for Belton. I originall was going to write "second rate" and decided against it. I'm an optimistic type of guy.

Aren't you being a little premature? Let's wait and see what he brings before writing him off. Obviously, Mick must have seen more.

I heard he's got a pretty decent offensive game and that he's a smart player.

Now we're trying to guess the incoming recruits scoring and rebound averages for the upcoming season? Seems a little premature.

You need to remember that Belton will be a freshman next year. It will be very hard for him to come in and battle with the more experience post guys in the Big East. I also don't think we should be comparing him to Fortson until we see what he can actually do at the college level.

The comparison to Fortson was loosely based on body type and playing style. The comparison was not meant to tag him as a future All American. Once we see what he can actually do at the college level there will be no need to compare or speculate any more.

How about comparing him to John Jacobs then?

I thought I heard Mick compare Belton to Eric Hicks and Curtis Bostic as far as his body type is concerned but I will just wait and see what kind of player he is. Everything I heard said he physical and has a powerful body.

6-7 260 forward with fortson and art
long, and bobby brannon was a freshmen.
during the early mid 90s, he was exacly

Belton is a heckuva player. Bob Gibbons (THE best recruiting analyst) likes him a lot.

So do I.

John Jacobs was a freshman in 1991-92.

Art Long was a JuCo recruit on the 1995-96 team.

Fortson was a frosh on the 1994-95 team.

Jacobs never played with either one.

You're thinking of Mike Harris maybe?
