As painful as it is to admit, i think adam h had a bigger impact against x than the lousy effort we got on the frontline this year. Hopefully that doesn't continue, and it's hard to believe it could, but we didn't see it saturday.

Whoa whoa whoa... I admit the front line outside of Toyloy didn't show up to play, but Adam H would be the 5th big off the bench if he were still here.

Are we talking the same Adam H who (God bless him) couldn't make a dunk or layup if his life depended on it?
I will say this...Mike Williams needs to attack the rim a lot more, especially since he's one of our better ft shooters. We need to see the beast inside.

I knew i would stir some foul feelings on this topic, but consider this:
2007(adam,sykes,biggie,williamson) 25 rebounds, 17 points 5 point loss and led most of game
2008(gates,toyloy,biggie, williams) 11 rebounds, 16 points, trailed entire game
how we lookin? Not good.

i think the puzzle piece we missed more may have been williamson, not adam...
that said, this front line is much improved over last year, though the shootout is an obvious exception...

First off, rivalry games should NEVER be called as tightly as it was. Let them talk, let them play. Secondly, the game plan was atrocious, why are we trying to run with X? Even when we weren't trying to run the court and actually played a half court game, there was minimal effort to get the ball inside, Deonta and Larry need to get better at being agressive, driving the lane and dumping the ball off. X was leaving us wide open for 3's for a good while and clogging the middle, go ahead, penetrate, dump it off, and occasionally throw it back out for a wide open 3 in the corner, we didn't do squat to force X to expand their defense.

I will never miss that Polish mistake of a lay-up. I'd rather get whooped by X than have him back on the team. He was soooooo bad.

i don't disagree with any of this, but you have to come to play against the best teams and they clearly didn't. once it was decided to basically do everything possbile to free vaugh for shots, we had to many guys on the perimeter to even have an inside presence. however, that kind of shows how little faith the coach has in scoring at the basket.

The thing about Adam H. was he was so limited athletically and he could not finish. However, he was almost ALWAYS in the right place and established good low-post position. If Gates and McClain could learn to establish position as well as Adam H. did, they would score 12-15 points each every night. That is where they are both needing improvement.

Once i seen an Adam H thread on the first page,i just had to look att he date to see if this was dug up from last year.
As far as the topic of conversation,Adam couldn't finish for nuffin, and i would rather have the frontline we have now and he did not have much of a deciding impact in the Shootout last year himself.I liked how Toyloy played in this years Shootout.I'd much rather have him than Adam going to the basket.

exactly right, it's kind of like the nose tackle in football. other guys get a lot opportunity from just one guy making a presence and it wasn't there to often on saturday.

Xavier is ranked in the top 10 for a reason. Their experience and talent showed. They're still undefeated, and, even though you might not like it, they're a better team than we are right now.

Yancy's 4 fouls killed us.
Mike Williams was like a deer in headlights. No doubt about it. And no excuse for that.
Yancy took himself out of the game with stupid smacktalk, stupid fouls, and overall lack of rebounding and contributions.
McClain was too slow for the game. On the other hand, Kenny Frease got an easy layup on a fast break, and got a nice inbounds pass but was fouled/blocked by Biggie and went to the FT line and missed two, but got another chance. Frease had as little of impact as Biggie. Both were non-factors.
Toyloy played well in the 2nd half.
I still think they replay that game, UC gives them a full 40 minute close game, and might even win. Xavier wasn't that much better than us. They just came ready to play, and we didn't. Once we started playing, we actually took it too them.......it was just too much to overcome.

Yup. Right now are the key words.
