Well when I looked at the non-conference schedule, I was figuring that 10-3 would be very realistic. With this win tonight, UC should have 10 wins and possibly 11 if they can go shock Memphis.

My question to all of you nice, wholesome, non-vulgar Bearcat fans is this:

From what you've seen so far, (and try to be as honest and non-homer as possible here) is this an NIT or NCAA Tourney team?

I'll cheat a little and copy/paste a post I just made:

Interesting stat: Of 343 Div. I college basketball teams, UC ranks 325th in experience. And we're in the BEAST. Making any tourney would be quite an accomplishment!

I say NIT.

Last Year 4-6, this year 8-2.

This is a NCAA Tournament team as long as they play tough and aggressive. This team has the talent and a favorable Big East schedule. Win the games you're supposed to win, get some upsets and finish 8-8 in the Big East and you're on the bubble. Go 9-7 in the Big East and I think we're in if we finish with 10 non-conference wins. Now, if UC finishes with 11 non-conference wins then 9 Big East conference wins would probably lock us into the NCAAs.

It's 18 games in the BEAST regular season as of last year.

I don't know, it's pretty close to call as of now IMO. Time will tell. They played much better tonight on both sides of the ball.

I agree with BeastUC. I think its definitely possible (NCAA) but a lot of improvement is needed before conference play starts. They (Bishop, Davis, etc.) better learn how to not be so sloppy with the ball. They look miserable out there at times.

to early to say. we never expected the big east start we had last year. one positive development appears to be teaming yates and toyloy on the front line together. although it was somewhat awkward with yates on the perimeter, toyloy clears a lot of space with one defender in the lane. this lineup also appears to get the second guard, davis, a lot better looks. they may have found something.

I'm thinking definite NIT team and if we can win a couple games in the Beast tournament we're in the NCAA.

I think the key (and this is probably a duh comment) is that they need to mature in a hurry. Now Beast play can do that to you, but from what I've seen tonight, they are very streaky. The other thing that concerns me is that Mike Williams doesn't seem to be taking the leadership double digit scoring role that we need. He has got to change and become agressive or we don't make the NCAA's.

the big east is brutal. every win will be difficult to come by in the conference. NCAA is possible, but improving on last years big east record will be extremely difficult.

Possible NCAA, probable NIT. Either > CBI with a losing record (2008).

Not 4 me. Yates was starting PG on 2 NCAA title teams and 1 runner-up. The best, most successful UC teams ever.

And u really think the BEAST is brutal,or should i ask as advirtised as in 8 teams in the top 25?I think it's a bit overrated, from my viewpoint of seeing all of the teams at least once so far this year.
U didn't miss anything not seeing Rutgers and i seen SJU play only once and they barely beat a cupcake.

My point is that UC is a very young team without a point guard. Great point guard play is critical in a conference known for it's defense. Whether or not there are 8 teams in the top 25 is debatable, but there definitely are 12 in the top 50. It is a league where UC is going to be facing a top 15 team every week. You simply cannot "get up" for every game. Mick even said so last night on his show- it is a league where you have to bring it every night, and that simply is not possible. You can come off an emotional game vs an elite team, and then your next game very easily lay an egg vs. a lesser opponent. If you go by the lower half of the league, according to the current ap/coaches polls, in no particular order, you have West Virginia, Providence, and Seton Hall. Legit or not, there are 8 teams the coaches consider to be better than all of them- and those 3 all are teams that are very solid who I would not count on UC beating.
