Should be a tough game. ;)

AR Pine Bluff is 1-8. In their defense, they have played all their games on the road.....and all 8 teams they lost to have winning records. Pretty tough schedule.

at Colorado (5-3)
at Texas A&M (10-1)
at Creighton (8-2)
at Nebraska (7-2)
at Georgia Tech (7-2)
at Missouri (9-1)
at Purdue (9-2)
at SMU (3-5)(they won this one)
at Nevada (6-5)

at Cincinnati

In this case, Arkansas Cream Puff is appropriate. Good tune up for Memphis.

This will be a good game to practice and prepare for Memphis. I expect a 20+ point victory. I'd like to see Wilks and McClain get substantial minutes and work on their game. Also, I'd like to see Alvin do the little things and show he belongs on the floor for at least 20 minutes a game.

That is one brutal schedule for a small team like APB, not a terrible team on that list.

To put things in perspective, UAPB is #335 in the Sagarin Predictor rankings. EKU is #108. (UC is #62.)

Pine Bluff plays in the terrible SWAC, the weakest of the 31 conferences. That entire conference is playing most of their OOC games on the road, and have amassed a collective record against D1 teams of 5-81.

Yes, they've played a tough schedule, but that, in and of itself, doesn't make them competitive. UC should blow this team out.

UC 85
UAPB 55Exactly. The fact that they have no offense nor defense makes them the ultimate definition of a cupcake.

The UC players have to love the opportunity to show off and pad their stats, so if I were Mick, I'd use this game as a teaching platform. Each time a player makes a fundamental mistake, yank him from the game - no matter who it is.

Start 5 bench players like Duke did a couple games ago. They had 72 "bench" points because all 5 starters came off of it. Pretty funny stat.

AR Pine Bluff is shooting 60% from three point range and they average 45 attempts per game. They're on a hot streak right now.

Ugh. :o

EKU could really be a dangerous 13 or 14 seed in the tournament if they were to win the OVC... Rose is a player and every single player on that roster can practically hit the three...

It's hard to get fired up for this game. I did look up Pine Bluff and was surprised to see they weren't rated in the over 300 range. Came in at 289. As cold as it will be tonight you would really have to be a die hard fan to go to the game. 5 thousand range again I would guess. I hope anyway I get to see the game on TV and Fox doesn't do something stupid.

realtimerpi is pretty reliable; I've used them for the last few seasons now. They aren't counting UC's win over South Dakota to open the year though, but I don't really think that game has much bearing on our RPI since it's a bottom feeder that we beat (had we lost, there'd be a massive discrepancy).

Anything that has us in the 40-50 range right now is pretty accurate, I think.

I like Sagarin myself mainly because they are always close to what I rate the teams. The Banter is down so some scores or whatever would help those fans if they come over here to look.

Someone on the radio said that they thought Arkansas Pine Bluff was a deoderant. If they don't win this one by at least 30-40, then our program will need some deoderant to stop the smell. After Saturday, I'm betting on a blowout!

I'm just a lowly fan who hopes that it will be on tv tonite. I'm hoping for several things.

1) We get to see all the game.
2) We focus on interior scoring.
3) Less TO's and reach in fouls.
4) Taking good shots.
If we do the last three, we should win by 20 plus.

Billy Don

Cats still love the 3 ball up 5-2. At least 7 or 8 3 point shots hit 1.

Brian H.
12-22-2008, 07:50 PM
Did you know you aren't allowed to take a shot inside the three point line? Apparently it is a new rule that Mick is making sure UC follows. The fact that Mick lets this go on makes me wonder if he has any control. How does a coach not tell his team every time down court a big man has to touch the ball? You are going to need those bigs when the conference schedule starts and yet we aren't working on getting them in the games.

DimitriusChristedes

yeah brian, I was just thinking that UC is way too in love with the three ball. The only other type of shot they take is a deliberate pass into the block followed by a post up move. never heard of dribble drive i guess

If Mick had any guts he bench the next person that jacks up a three with 24 seconds left on the shot clock for the rest of the game. These are cream puffs we are playing, this is when you should be setting examples and teaching lessons. I understand we don't have a PG, I didn't realize all we have are spot up shooters, it is like a team of Field Williams, though less accurate.

We will get crushed by BEast teams if we continue this.

this was the kind of half you dreamed about. Everyone was showcasing their talent/promise. Well maybe not biggie. Granted UAPB is no good, but you hope the cats learn this rhythm. We don't have to take 36 threes a game to win.

The first half was almost a highlight reel with all of those dunks. Toyloy played great, I thought he had a double-double, but the unofficial stats I see say he had 9 rebounds. Also entertaining was when Toyloy was shooting free throws with 2 minutes left in the first half, and said "Aw sh**" pretty loudly right after the release. The FT was way off.

On a different note, thank goodness UC beat EKU, who just lost to Indiana-Northwest, a team that doesn't even have a page on Yahoo sports.

Better defensive effort last night, except when they had their big man in the game. Dixon is really improving but has some big lapses on defense at times. We are still very susceptible to the three pointer. Great game from Gates and Toyloy! Biggie still seems to tire out pretty quickly.

That is from www.collegerpi.com. It seems to be updated frequently and the formula is basically the same as that used by the NCAA. I found it to be a good representation around tournament time as to who's in and who's out.

The pretend part of the season is over: that was great..... The begin part is just starting: That is what scares me......The Big east is stacked, I'm afraid 8-8 just won't be enough too get us in. We hafe too beat Memphis just too be a bubble team.

I am not picking on you directly because I have seen it posted by other people on different threads. I am just trying to straighten it out. The Big East conference schedule is 18 games long not 16, so a .500 record would be 9-9 not 8-8. For the record, I will stick to a 10-8 conference record prediction that I had made prior to the start of the season. I think Memphis is definitely beatable at home and the 'Cats have the talent to accomplish it. However, I have yet to see them sustain maximum effort for all 40 minutes and I think Memphis' strengths matchup well for them against our weaknesses. I don't think the 'Cats get it done, which leaves them at 10-3 OOC. Combine that with the conference record and the 20 game regular wins are reached. I think they finish 20-11 on the season, good enough for a 7-10 seed in the NCAA tourney.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all on this board.
