One of the benefits of the e-mail forum was that once I read a message I deleted it, and it was gone. A problem I have with the web based forums is that the messages stay forever, and if new messages are added to a thread you've already looked at, and were interested in, you go back (based i suppose on the listing of the date of the latest message, but then you have to look at least look at a bunch of old messages to find the new one(s). Is there some way to mark these things as previously read? (I hope that works, I tried to follow Jon's directions:)

I'm replying to my own message because I have another question - after I sent the message I noticed one or two gramatical errors that I wanted to correct - I hit edit made the corrections, but then the edit didn't appear. How come?

Editing of your own posts should work. What happens when you click on the Edit button for your own post? And is anyone else having this problem?

Did you save after editing?
Also, you can go to your user CP settings and change messages to start with the newest first. There is also a new post button at the top that you can just see new posts from what I think is last time you logged on.

WOW! Thanks Shaun - the new message thing is great if it works - I will try the edit thing again later. Like I said, moving to a new system is tough work for us neanderthals.

I have used a vBuliten forum type board in the past so it has been easy. There are a lot of good features you can play with under the user CP. My favorite is the ignore list for some unwanted posters.

I like the new post button. If you look at the list of threads, it is a down-pointed triangle next to the subject. Also, bolding and icons indicate if a thread has new posts.
I think that if you e-mail subscribe to a list, the link in the e-mail automatically takes you to the new post.
