Celek Just caught a TD pass to put the Eagles up over the Giants in the playoff game (Big time Jets fan here, but pulling for the Giants in these lean times for my own team). He led the Eagles in receptions in the win against the Vikings last week and over all has been a very good TE for them in two years as a pro; I personally think he's better in all facets of the game than LJ Smith, Phlly's other TE, incumbent starter, and former pro-bowler.

Lots of Bearcats making impacts in the NFL these days.

Who would be your All-UC pro bowl team for guys in the league RIGHT NOW?

I bet we stack up well against any other program in terms of having players contributing in the NFL these days, which is a product of good coaching, good recruiting, and is the mark of a program heading in the right direction.

You thoughts.

I agree that it's awesome to have former Bearcats making strides in the NFL, but I would be reluctant to say that they stack up against most other teams.

Other than Celek and Trent Cole (and Tywan Halger after injuries hit Indy) - no other Bearcats are even starters.

However, it was neat to see Mike Wright getting lots of PT for the Pats, seeing Nakamura in there for the Ravens.

Another note - people act like UC has just started sending guys to the league. Even in recent history, Minter sent nice classes to the league.
1997 - 2 players (Sam Garnes - 7 year starter for the Giants and started in the 2001 Super Bowl, Robert Tate who played 9 NFL Seasons)
1998 - 5 players (Jason Fabini - longtime NFL starter, Brad Jackson - part time starter of the Super Bowl Ravens, Derrick Ransom, Artrell Hawkins and Rod Monroe)
1999 Chad Plummer
2000 Troy Evans - who has been a solid NFL special teams player and backup linebacker
2001 Mario Monds - who played with the Bengals and Browns for a while
2002 Antonio Chatman and Lavar Glover

Those 97 and 98 classes were pretty good! (98 even had to Basketball players!!!)

My thoughts are that LJ Smith should be waived and I don't care if he's Donovan's best friend or not. He's not talented and never was.

Daven Holly would have started at corner for the Browns before he had an ACL/MCL tear in the preseason workouts. Can't remember what class he was in. You're also missing Chris Hewitt who started for the Saints for awhile and Blue Adams. My memory and google effort escapes me right now.

There is no way that Smith will be around next year IMO if I am right and he is a free agent that was franchised last year. With a more than capable Celek I can't see them paying the often injured and under producing Smith (nope, no UC bias there ;) ).

Brent Celek with 2 TDs today and is the most productive member of the Eagles out side of maybe Curtis and McNabb.

To see Brent Celek have success is pretty special to me. When i was a freshman at LaSalle Highschool he was a senior. Everytime i was in the weight room for basketball lifting Brent was in there working his tail off. Brent Celek actually made me sit the wall one time because I was messing around with some of my teamates. He was an absolute monster in the weight room and i see the hard work paid off!!
