UC currently sits at #74

Their SOS is 24. Pretty impressive. It will only climb.

The RPI is still unreliable at this point... Miami(OH) is checking in at #38 with an 8-6 record...

What is interesting is that UC hasn't lost a game they were supposed to win yet this year. According to the RPI they are 10-0 vs. teams outside the top 100... while they are 1-6 vs. teams inside the top 100.

With the schedule Miami Oh played, they should be at #38 if not higher.
I'm glad the reward teams who go out and play anybody and gets their share of wins.I'm sure it will drop with the MAC not being so good tho.

They were supposed to lose at home to Providence?

Providence is a better more experienced veteran (5 key seniors) team than UC is, at this point of the season. People who thought UC would win that game are going on the name "Providence" alone and not looking at the facts, such as how many key seniors and juniors Providence plays.

Bingo. Doesn't make the loss hurt any less but according to the RPI and the 'experience' factor Providence should have been favored to win that game.

The Providence loss is a bad loss. The RPI is not a very good way of measuring teams ability. Something like Pomeroy Ratings or Sagarin's Predictor are much more accurate. Providence is not a bad team, but they are a team UC should have beat at home.

Hopefully they can make up for it next Monday.

But we are discussing the RPI (which I've already stated on this very thread I hate) so according to the RPI, it is not a bad loss.

Yeah Providence may be our worst loss but I dont think its necessarily a bad loss.

well, Texas Southern has 7 seniors and 2 juniors. Third in the country in experience rank.

Not to nit pick, but Providence SHOULD have been a win at home.

You can't just pick any random team... obviously the experience factor is somewhat relative... your argument is weak at best.

They haven't been going against the Big East for 4 years. Huge difference.

I'm surprised we have to point these things out to you. But then again, maybe I'm not.

UC doesn't have to worry about the RPI the SOS or any of that stuff. The 1-3 conference record is what needs to be worried about. If you don't play in a tournament the RPI and SOS is a moot point. If UC doesn't get the 9 or 10 wins in the conference the RPI and SOS means nothing.

Makes you wonder about the RPI and other rankings - if a lower ranked team comes into your home court and wins, some people say it's not an upset. Is this selective importance of rankings? Pomeroy said RPI is dead - he's looking right now.

The RPI has been questioned for years. It's NCAA basketball's "BCS system"... luckily, it doesn't determine the champion, though.

UC will W at least 6 B-East games, maybe more.

Anything less will be very disappointing.

Unfortunately, I agree with you. RPI and SOS don't mean shi! if you aren't going to qualifty for any postseason play. Let's get the conference record to .500 and go from there. We've got a great opportunity over the next 3 games, so hopefully we can grind out some wins.

SOS does matter in my opinion. Its the reason a 21-12 BEAST team can get in before a 27-6 Horizon team.
